Due to travel delays, arrived at my overnight rental at 8 am. Check out at 11 am. After this, everything is going to be good, right?

The plane on the right has an empty seat where I was supposed to be instead of sitting on the tarmac after 4.5 hours of delay. So close and yet so impossible. Oh well, there’s another flight tomorrow, right?

I am so happy to know I will be on a plane over international waters when this happens, blissfully unaware of whatever word vomit he expels, and with no intention of my learning of it for more than two weeks.

Five blocks into a 300 mile motorcycle ride when a teenager ran a stop sign and nearly hit me. Takes a bit of the fun out of it. 🤬

For me, there is very little that clears my mind as much as time on a motorcycle. Forest roads. Lake drives. Detours. Tired but recharged.

Needed something light after my morning read.

A damp, grey weekend was the right time for this cold stark masterwork. Although I feel guilty for not having read it sitting in field spattered with rain as I tried to make out the words in dim light from under a tattered tarp. A difficult but amazing book. Hope in the face of absolute devastation.

I live in a nice house, in a nice neighborhood. I usually lock my doors but I don’t worry about it if I forget once in a while. Last weekend, someone opened a door from my deck into my bedroom at 4.10 am. It woke me up. I yelled and lept at the door. Person ran off. It’s unsettling.

“Everyone” knows that Hemingway is a great author, but it’s just a thing you “know” until you remind yourself in his pages that he is truly a master. A magnificent bastard in some ways maybe, but there’s no doubt about being magnificent. This book is a masterpiece.

I just had wonderful Father’s Day. I have two sweet, smart, accomplished sons. I feel blessed and appreciated. A really fun day with them.

I recently re-heard the saying that we either grow up to become our parents or a reaction to our parents. Just had one of those moments where I was happy to be the opposite of one of my parents. Which, interestingly, was right after a moment where I was just like that same parent. Life is weird.

Finished this today. Yesteryear by Caro Claire Burke. Thought I was getting a light-hearted skewering of the tradwife culture. Instead got a darker, more sinister examination of religion, women’s roles in society, the ills of social media and doomsday politics. Well written, interesting, dark.

Me: Thanks for helping move that stuff. I was worried about some of the heavy items. Son: I wasn’t worried about it. Me: I’m not as young or strong as I used to be. Son: You have “Dad” strength. That counts for a lot.

Once in a great while a customer service experience is wonderful. Just had one with Heather at U-Haul that ended with her wishing me a “Fantabulous Friday.” It slightly restored my faith in humanity.

There’s nothing like the sound of a cocktail shaker in an airport bar in the morning hours.

I just stopped my vehicle to let a white haired granny use a crosswalk. She blew me a big kiss, then gave me the thumbs up and a smile as she crossed. Apparently I earned my Boy Scout points today. 😁

Spring time activated.

One of life‘s wonderful, simple pleasures. Cool morning giving way to afternoon warmth in the sun at an outdoor café.

As I woke up this morning I was having the most physically vivid dream of a sport I haven’t competed in for more than 30 years. I was back in college rowing; starting a race. My mind was replaying every muscle fiber of a sensation decades away. It’s hard to describe how real and vivid.

Reasons why I do not trust men no matter how nice they may seem? I’ve got 62 million of them.
