That's the biggest operational mistake you can make in D6 Star Wars - having something which was supposed to be 'a quick skirmish' eat two hours because you didn't have a good handle on the timing. Calibrating how long it takes YOUR players to defeat an equal number of stormtroopers is a

Second tip, combat eats time just because of all the die-rolling, so maybe just plan for one fight in the first session, and have a way for it to be shut off if it starts to drag on. E.g, after 4 combat rounds there's a hull breach and both sides have to disengage. That speeds the game up and leaves

A couple of practical tips - for Star Wars, high-action and fast and loose rather than slavishly following the rules is generally more in keeping with the genre. You can tighten the rules up as you and the players become better-drilled, but don't get hung up on minor details at the start of a game

I don't think that section of advice survived into second edition - can't find it in my preprint copy, but the 2ed advice is okay if you add the above bit as well
