I wrote a paper in 2015 on the UK "grooming gang" scandal with a focus on the 2012 Rochdale case. In the 1990s, Rochdale was the site of another organised abuse investigation, except that social workers were excoriated for believing and intervening.

Ryan Wellings, who abused and coercively controlled Kiena Dawes for two years, threatening her with acid and to use a drill to take out her teeth, was today CLEARED of manslaughter after her suicide. Today’s result is an abhorrent injustice. This is murder in slow motion ⬇️

What’s going on in the UK around Child Sexual Abuse and ‘oh dear what do we do? We demand ANOTHER inquiry’ - is playing politics at the expense of past and present victim survivors. We want CHANGE. Musk has NO idea what CSA looks like or come from. Sensationalising rather than solving. Disgusting.

Our human needs are quite basic really. To be heard, seen, for someone to give us their full attention for a while. To care enough to act. To protect. I’m a lover of words, but not when they’re used to deflect, which is what we’re seeing. Too much talk. Too little action. And #CSA continues.

We are outraged over the machinations from the president-elect (himself a convicted sex offender, hiring other sex offenders) -- but we must remember that #sexualabuse almost always takes place right under our noses. It is not only 'over there', in places of power; it is also always right HERE. #CSA
