This beast caught a viral infection called ECE from the new baby ferret. Thankfully we caught it early and she’s on the mend. She’s super excited I’ve stopped shoving antibiotics down her throat.

Tonight’s deep thoughts before I fall asleep. I hate social media. I hate how it’s degraded society. How everyone thinks they can spew hate from behind a screen and there’s no accountability. But in an effort to actually sell more books, I need to think of it as a necessary evil.

I’d love to get more pictures of the baby ferret, but he never stops moving. The best I can do is when he’s stuck in a carrier with one of his sisters passed out after a vaccine. She used him as a pillow and he didn’t seem to care.

My business of 4 is now a business of 5. This little boy was so lonely and sad, I needed to show him what it was to have a home and sisters and love!! Welcome to the family Perseus, Percy for short!!

Surgery went well. But for the next 5 days I have to keep her from acting…well…like a cat. No jumping, running, or climbing. And when this is all done and said, she’s going to be more angry about her surgical suit, than the actual surgery.

Sitting here waiting to hear if my 15 1/2 year old cat is doing well after surgery is agonizing.

Now back to pictures of ferrets, because once again, fuck Trump.

Writing urban fantasy means balancing magic, mayhem, and characters who really need therapy. Honestly, I should start charging them.

I don't know what it is about this line that I love so much. It's simple and without my usual brand of snark, but something about it resonated with me while I was editing today.

After what happened today, I think it’s time for a social media break for a little bit. While I have sympathy for his wife and two very small children, I don’t think I can handle the finger pointing and blame that’s going to run rampant for the near future.

I know I’m supposed to building a following by writing engaging content. But man my life is boring! So unless you want to see lots of pictures of cat, ferrets, dogs, and an occasional book or editing post, I’m probably going to fail on gaining a ton of followers.

I have always been drawn to Disney, Studio Ghibli, and Pixar art, but always thought I needed to be more serious in my artistic endeavors. But then I started drawing Kawaii characters and I am having so much fun! Art is art, no matter if it is a portrait or a unicorn hot chocolate.

Being at Tucson Festival of Books, reminds me that readers love my strange little vampire universe. And that continuing to write in Alexis’s world is not only fun but very much wanted from my readers. So, as Nathan would say, “We’re back, bitches!” This was 100% written as a reminder to myself.

Just did a session on this, so here for the lunchtime crowd who might be #querying. Comps. Comparable texts. The things you put in your query letter to illustrate what your book is &, dare I say, illuminate things a bit and show a hospitable bit of market knowledge. Don't wince: let's get on with it

I’m struggling with my order of operations to get this book ready to query. The OCD part of me really wants to keep going back to make the first half shiny and pretty and perfect. The rational part of me knows I need to move forward and make the rest something less than a garbage heap of words.

Writers advice. Don’t comment on a negative review. Don’t post about a negative review. Don’t pay attention to a negative review. Don’t feed the negative review. Try to forget it exists and move on. They happen. Everyone gets them. Complaining or calling out the reviewer is bad business.
