People are talking about how old the Stranger Things kids are like they’re the TOS cast in Star Trek VI, but they’re still kinda young considering teenagers in 80’s movies were all like 30.

This thread. Also: at my (upper/mid) level, all I'm hearing is "make your own thing." I've been doing that for 20 years. It's been a nice way to supplement my scattered income from selling scripts. But to make something, you need to pay the people helping you (at a certain point). So, who funds it?

As someone who loves both Star Trek and Star Wars for different reasons (and can recognize the triumphs and flaws of both) I find it deeply silly to believe there is any such war between the two outside of the minds of the worst kinds of fans, much less that it’s clear that either “side” has won.

I’d make Netflix make a feature-length follow up to every series they prematurely cancelled, starting with The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, plus a mandated one-month theatrical window and guaranteed release on physical media.

I blazed through the excellent 5-hr “Mr. Scorsese” doc. It’s only problems are it’s still too short, and now I need to watch every single Martin Scorsese movie again.

Too bad our industry collapsed and you’ll not get anything like the first two images for a really long while unless someone is coming to our rescue. I know because I literally just talked to Pen, Ian, Rebecca, and Pat yesterday.

My only hot take about this. As cool as a Steven Soderbergh-directed Star Wars movie (a Ben Solo movie no less) would be, I gotta say, considering how fans are, I think Soderbergh might’ve caught a lucky break.

KPop Demon Hunters is great and this house has had the songs on repeat practically nonstop all day. Knowing his cousin’s tastes well, our son immediately wanted to know if she’d seen it, and the exhausted way my brother-in-law responded, “Don’t talk to me about it,” was so damn funny.

Hey, as a librarian I need to tell you: Our funding depends on usage. So go ahead and check out that book even if you don't think you'll finish it. No one will know. Check out that DVD even though you might not like it. Get ambitious in your quest for knowledge.

Finally watching the last season of The Owl House, and I dig this mini-movie format, but how I wish we got another full season of episodes with these characters. Luz showing her friends the human world deserved more than just 40 minutes.

City of Ghosts is still on Netflix, if y’all need something to watch to remind you the power we have to bring light into the world (it’s about Los Angeles and history and ghosts but not in a scary way). Probably will make you cry, but I’ve been told it’s healthy/ happy tears.

Note to self: Write something *you* would like to read. When you write for yourself, you're guaranteed that at least ONE person will enjoy it.

Or… and bear with me here… we could encourage middle and high school kids that it’s okay to write shitty stories and draw shitty art because it might end up being awesome.

The process of doing things - like making art or making history - is joyful. It’s messy, complicated, and frustrating, but it’s also creating something from nothing, all on your own. And it is a joy.
