Today is Earth Day. This year’s theme is “Our Power, Our Planet.” Clean water, flood protection, conservation, and responsible growth aren’t side issues. They affect public health, public safety, and quality of life. That’s a big part of why I’m running for Papio NRD. #EarthDay #PapioNRD

Yesterday I toured Little Lions Pre-K at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo, and it was incredible. The Learning Community’s partnership with the zoo goes beyond Little Lions, including outreach, classes, camp experiences, and more. Early learning like this matters.

Thursday night, Gretna showed up. The Gretna Public Schools Foundation Gala raised just over $218,000 to support mental and behavioral health in the district. Proud of Jennifer for serving as an event chair and being named Volunteer of the Year for 2026. #Gretna

I attended the Superintendents' Early Childhood Plan convening in Omaha with 150+ school leaders. Ernesto Mejia: "Most families aren't disengaged. They're disconnected from how schools work." Stronger school-family connections = stronger outcomes for kids.

On Monday, I attended the Legislative Issues Conference in Lincoln. It was a useful chance to hear directly about bills moving through the Unicameral this session—especially those affecting schools, students, and communities across Nebraska.

MLK’s legacy wasn’t built on speeches alone, but on consistent work for justice and dignity. Honoring him isn’t a once-a-year post—it’s how we show up the rest of the time, especially when it’s uncomfortable. Today is a reminder to keep doing the work.

Jennifer and I attended the Midland Community Foundation Gala last night — a great evening focused on community impact and philanthropy. Always encouraging to connect with people doing meaningful work across our region.

January 6 was a turning point for me. Seeing democratic institutions tested made it clear that democracy requires participation. That realization led me to public service. This photo is from January 9, 2025, when I was sworn in.

As we begin a new year, I want to thank our community for trusting me to serve. This past year has been about showing up—at meetings, in the community, and in the less visible policy and budget work that supports students, families, and schools. I’m committed to continuing that work.

This week, Jennifer and I donated 16 dozen donuts to Pettrigrew Emergency Shelter and the Stephen Center to help provide a moment of comfort for people navigating difficult circumstances. Acts of care matter. When we keep people at the center, communities are stronger and more connected.

During the holiday season, I’m reminded how much community matters. This time of year is about slowing down, checking in on one another, and recognizing what gives our communities their character. We’re also celebrating a special family moment—my oldest son, Ayden, recently got engaged.

Jennifer and I delivered 45 gift cards—over $1,000—collected by members and attendees of the Sarpy County Democrats to Lift Up Sarpy County. These are going to teens, who are often left out of holiday giving, and help provide choice, dignity, and support. #teamjasontaylor

End-of-Year Referee Stats: Since 8/25/20 I’ve officiated 655 matches. 2024: Spring 42 games/188.94 mi; Summer 21/52.68; Fall 60/266.64. Year total: 123 games/508.26 mi. Refereeing sharpens the fairness, consistency, and clear decisions I rely on in public service.
