Closed out 2025 with a film I've been dying to see for a while now, Tsui Hark's GREEN SNAKE. The best version available (Novamedia blu-ray) has possibly the worst English subs I've ever seen, but the visual lyricisim of this film is truly astounding. A visual masterpiece.

It's funny how I managed to get to Episode VII and VIII completely spoiler free, but knew pretty much everything about IX beforehand 😆

Tatsuya Nakadai, a blazing titan of cinema, quite simply one of the greatest on screen performers ever. Such range and emotion, he was just born to do it. His work with Kurosawa and especially Kobayashi was solid gold. Shine on.

Either Craig Mazin thinks he needed to make Ellie extra unlikeable to pull off the Abby season (he doesn't), or he just fundamentally misunderstands who Ellie as a character is (he probably does). I like the show a lot but the holes are starting to show now with some distance.

Using #AI to make any kind of art is like paying a writer and an artist to make a comic, then putting your name on it and calling yourself a graphic novelist. Except that at least you paid the creatives there; AI "artists" and "writers" just rip off real creators without agreement or payment.
