I'm seeing some recurrence on here of the 'agonistic histories' idea as it relates to NI and Ireland, i.e. that seeking a unitary sense about the past is wrong because to do so is insensitive to one side or other (or both). It's *really* not a road we should take, as I try to argue in my book.

This is a very interesting piece on the Fine Gaelisation of Labour via Morgan McSweeney and the limitations of centrist managerialism. "At the last poll, both UK Labour and Fine Gael were on 18% support. It appears that Morgan McSweeney's political project has reached its successful conclusion."

The lads diplomatically explain that if McSweeney goes, Starmer has to go too. Iâll explain why, more bluntly: this project minus Mandelson and McSweeney is like The Scooby Doo Show, without Shaggy and Scooby. Nobody thinks Scrappy Doo is the star.

The only route to accepting Mandelson or Andrew's "silly me!" version of events, is to believe that they only ever exhanged sensitive information or access in exhange for cash or favours or sex to one man, and by sheer dint of bad luck it was the one man on Earth whose emails everyone gets to read.

It's likely that Peter Mandelson has been the *actual* PM until very recently, Starmer an obvious cipher, McSweeney a mere factotum. Mandelson's loyalty to transnational capital over over the petty pirouettes of UK ministers has always been assumed and admired as an example of New Realism.
