Here is your regular reminder: Don't feed bread to pigeons. Or any birds really. I know it's a fun meme but it's not healthy for them. It fills their stomach but doesn't give them the nutrition they need. It might even make them sick. Feed birds peanuts, seed, peas, or other vegetables instead!

Regretting my choice of PostgreSQL now that I have a 100+ line SQL query with dynamically supplied columns and WHERE clauses from TypeScript. Maybe I want a real graph database that can do recursive queries ergonomically? It's 2025, could I get real-time and offline for free with that? 🦉🥴

Some software just has lasting impact. In 2006 I started a phpBB web forum for my classmates. Nearly 20 years later now, I'm applying those same skills professionally at work, administering a phpBB forum with 150k members! MediaWiki is similarly unstoppable.

I'm back in the side project game with a brand new website and app concept. Having a blast making the frontend with Sveltekit and Tailwind, even though it's all fake data so far.

I want to make my life easier when building software, so I've been trying to check out some new-ish databases like SurrealDB and EdgeDB. They promise bombastic features, but confusingly have few users, and the Python APIs feel stagnant compared to SQLAlchemy... Makes me second guess myself.

Someday I will learn how to make a vacation for myself from which I don't end up feeling like I need a second one to recover!

Attended the Halloween fursuit outing in Prague yesterday. Back in 2016, it was my first furry event. It's awesome to see how much it's grown since then! I don't know many local furs, but it was fun to meet some familiar faces and to hang out with the birds.
