Designing a shmup (or any action game) for a 40 year old console really focuses the mind. If you only have 10-20 objects (often less) to challenge the player with you have to make them all count. Restrictions are a great way to learn to design tight and interesting game play.

I was planning on releasing a playthrough video of Road Fighter this week, but I'm having a hard time beating the second loop (and that's needed to see the true ending). Meanwhile, here's one of the three songs I sent to the 2026 SMS Power! competition.
