Besides the nostalgia of making SMS games I like the fact that retro console games are now almost more cross platform than anything else. Thanks to the popularity of emulators, FPGA, handhelds, RPi etc, you can play an SMS game on almost anything. 👍 #homebrew #mastersystem

In a somewhat related way, you should have a similar aim when collecting physical games. As a recovering collector, it can be so easy to start collecting what you like then creep into buying anything you don't own, just for the thrill. Now you have 100 bad games you'll never play.

SEGA Master System outlives another console. (I make SMS games and will continue to release them on a cartridge, in a box, with a manual).

I'm working hard on finishing Razing Core, but sorry for the lack of updates. I'm now approaching the end, currently working on the stage 6 boss, and then the final stage! 🫡 The ROM size is now 4mbit (512Kbyte), I hope it will fit the finished game. #mastersystem #homebrew

I've finished the background for stage 6, now to begin designing the enemies. Making stages gets quicker since a lot of the enemy mechanics already exist, but creating unique combinations and enjoyable flow is the hard part. #mastersystem #homebrew

I'm currently finishing off stage 5 (of 7). I will also be adding a caravan stage after the story stages are done. A lot of improvements in performance too. If you tried the alpha demo you will notice them for sure. #mastersystem #homebrew

Torasu Warp 9 is finally done! Can say the game is 25% done. Yay milestone! 🎉 Goal is ~36 warps (5 stage bosses and a final boss). Here's short clips showing what I can in 3 minutes. Wish me luck on my future work 🤞🤞 (currently uploading full vid to youtube)

The reason I feel it's a bad idea to let others design parts of your game is not because others don't have good ideas, but because they're only good ideas in isolation. Only you can really know if something will work with the rest of the game, and you also care a lot more if it might fail.

The last week has been spent replacing calculations for tables in hot paths that weren't needed now that a lot enemy behaviour is set. I also refactored collisions a little. Slowly it's getting there. Have a good weekend! ☀️ #mastersystem #homebrew

In Razing Core the player's hit box is represented by the orange cockpit to make it clear. One other way I found to make the hits feel more fair was to keep the bullet and player on screen for a few frames to make it clear. #mastersystem #homebrew

I spent the last couple of nights optimising collision routines with good results. I have a few other things I want to improve then I can get back to stage 5. Hope everyone has a good weekend! ⛱️

In Frontier Force using different weapons is an important mechanic to learn but is only documented in the manual. Some people found it difficult for this reason. In Razing Core I'll attempt to explain everything in-game to make things easier. #homebrew #mastersystem

On Feature Creep Friday I added a new secondary laser weapon. It seems to be equally overpowered and annoying to use in most situations, which seems like a good combination. #mastersystem #homebrew

Stage 5 progress has been fast despite the challenges. It has the most variety in one stage with various switching of the palette and tiles. It made me wonder how big a continuous stage could be with the right planning. Perhaps for the next game. #mastersystem #homebrew

A fun fact when making this, I designed the ship model in Blockbench but the exported wire frame version (left) was too busy at low-resolution for the SMS. As a quick solution I textured the model with simple wire frames and exported that textured model instead. It's so silly but it worked.
