Always use OEM Power Supplies with your retro consoles! Why? Here is an SNES console running the burn-in test using a cheap, aftermarket power supply where it shows a failing VRAM. I ran the same test on the same console with an OEM Nintendo power supply and it passes the burn-in test with no errors

I got this Sega Genesis Model 2 off eBay. The reset button was stuck but it did power on. I cleaned the cartridge connector and replaced the old capacitors with brand new ones. Then I cleaned the whole shell. Almost lost the spring for the cartridge slot dust guard flaps so that was stressful 😅

Busy day today! Just finished my eBay customer’s controller for service today. Cleaned it up, installed new GuliKit TMRs. This Genesis was filthy and didn’t read carts. Reset was stuck. Cleaned the shell, buttons, and the cartridge connector. She lives but needs a recap.

There was a penny in this PS1. I don’t think it’s very lucky.

The world may be on fire, but I am so grateful to this hobby. It’s one of the few things in life that keeps me sane other than my loved ones. I feel good knowing there are others who can benefit from my skills. That’s what keeps me going.

Got a PS4 Slim for $30 untested. Powered on, but no picture. Decided to replace the HDMI port. Pretty proud for my first time! Definitely some growing pains. But I think replacing USB-C ports helped the learning process. I’m so pumped to play Bloodborne again! 🥹

Got a Red Camo Xbox Series controller from Mercari. The seller mentioned it had really bad drift. I replaced the old analog sticks with GuliKit TMR joysticks. Cleaned and disinfected the entire controller. Safe to say, this controller won’t be drifting anymore. Now to get a battery cover for it.

Pro tip: if you’re replacing analog sticks, order more than one set. Learning today that even the best brands have bad batches.

Decided to swap out my GuliKit Hall Effect analog sticks for my Nintendo Joycons with GuliKit TMR analog sticks. Since the Hall Effect sticks are still good, I’m going to put them in another set of joycons I got coming in.

It would have been nice to carry my save data over from vanilla Shantae: Half Genie Hero to the ultimate edition. I only bought it because it was cheaper than buying the DLC separately 🫠

One of my old Xbox One controllers had drift and I tried to fix it when I first learned soldering. I lifted a couple pads accidentally and left it on the back burner for a couple years. This year, I put in new TMR sticks and fixed those traces.

PEGI giving Balatro an 18+ rating while games with MTX/loot boxes are rated 3+ speaks to the performative nature of current rating systems. It’s all about rating the appearances, the aesthetics, not the actual suitability or potential for harm. FIFA’s basically rewarded for wearing a disguise.

Gaining the ability to repair and mod gaming hardware is a literal dream come true for me. I was poor growing up so if things were broken, there were no replacements. I was also very afraid of breaking things further. The reality is, you cannot learn this skill without taking risks.

Today’s retro haul from my local game shop! Picked up Pokémon Stadium, Super Mario 64, N64 Rumble Pak, and Dreamcast Jump Pack.

Getting practice with my heat gun. Got a couple PS5 controllers with USB connector issues. Managed to get the connector off one ok but removing the remaining solder from these throughholes are annoying. I had to apply solder mask because of trying to clear one particular throughhole. Break time…

Anyone else have a pile of these microSD to SD card adapters that they don’t need but can’t bring themselves to throw them away?

Atomic Purple N64 controller had a limp joystick, so I swapped it with an 8BitDo hall effect GameCube style joystick. Also gave the controller a nice cleaning too. I plan to see if I can restore the original joystick in the future.

Needed a replacement foot for the PS2 so I designed one! I'm sure there are already designs of this but I'm too lazy to search and like to design my own things🤷‍♂️. Print in TPU for better traction 👍 www.printables.com/model/106683...

Removed old mod chip and replaced it with a PsNee. Messed up one of the pads on the chip board so I had to wire one of them directly to the chip. It works but the laser need calibration.
