I'm bad at stealth gameplay. It always seems so arbitrary what enemies notice. I haven't found a stealth-focussed game that made it feel natural. Some things help a bit—awareness cones & rustle-o-meters—but they still don't make it fun. Waiting for a guard to turn around will never be entertaining.

Got a smart YouTube comment noting how toxic gamerdom often targets games they first saw at Keighley-led events. Flintlock, Highguard, & Mixtape were all part of SGF/TGA, and subsequently became targets for harassment and review bombing. Maybe all publicity is not healthy publicity.

My take on #Mixtape, in response to the many articles about it not being era-accurate. “Mixtape’s mood board sensibility expands beyond its soundtrack into a wider collage of vibes, trends, moments, and ephemera from generations of teen culture and media.”

I've only played Saros for a short while. It's super high quality—nice lighting, smooth movement, good UI, interesting art style, silky combat, very AAA—and also somehow doesn't exert magnetism on me in a way I find unusual and hard to explain. An issue of... ~charm?

We all know GPT is extremely bad. That it's quite so bad, and so specifically dangerous, is perhaps due to it being led by a very problematic person. Altman was ousted by his closest peers for unsuitability and untrustworthiness, before lawyering himself back in. This piece is crazy, and valuable.

Pragmata was such a satisfying game. Original hack-n-shoot combat, A+ level design, stunning environments, fun traversal, and scores of secrets to find, all with worthwhile rewards. And ofc, Diana, an unforgettable sidekick who rly deserves a sequel. Downsides were few. Full review to follow.

Popped over to the smouldering wreck of Twitter and.. wow. The Mixtape discourse on here has been a polite referendum on the properties of intentionally nostalgic media; there, it's a mob of blue ticks screaming about it being a woke non-game astroturfed slideshow (etc). Just the absolute worst.

One of the things I like about Mixtape is how it understands & amplifies the *feelings* of teenhood. It's an intense age, for anyone—a lot of first times, rawness, tough lessons, brand new emotions. There's a lighter-than-air ebullience in the game's more magical sequences that really nails that.

Doesn't it seem like this year in games really sprang to life in the last few weeks? Inundated with quality stuff to play.

I ended up really liking #Mixtape. It's made with genuine love for the source material: music, teendom, the coming-of-age movies that thread through from the '80s-'00s. It's simple & saccharine in places—but it's a genre piece, earnestness & cliché go with the turf. Bags of style, plenty of heart.
