Stumbling through icy paths I run into the red hat shroom family. "Care for some tea?" I am too large to to go inside their house so I watch puffs of smoke rise out of their mushroom chimney, drinking tea out of an acorn cup. Two shroom toddlers climb on my shoe and squeal when I picked them up.

Pecan pie, lemon meringue. She is learning to cook because she wants life to be sweet. Sugar sprinkled and cookie cutter. A gingerbread cottage that entices and fills. She forgets the breadcrumbs. The small savoury interactions that help us when we are lost. #vssdaily pecan #vss365 learning

The witch rustles the leaves just right to keep him sleeping peacefully. She is tempted to throw a little thunder into the mix, just a little jump scare never hurt a wizard, she thinks, but she doesn't. The wizard smiles in his sleep. Probably dreaming of their younger days.

My rock is mossy on one side, a miniscule shroom kingdom hidden in a crack, it's tiny queen holding court in the green meadow, her people always smiling. I was told that throwing the rock up in the air would make any wish come true, but not disturbing the queen was my first wish, so I don't.

She has too many names, and none at all, but most whisper 'hag' when the stories circle back to her on the darkest nights. Hair that sparks with lightning, palms as rough as runnelled willow bark. Feet that leave impressions in the hardest stone, but dance invisibly over dirt.

Me: We have too many books. My husband: We have inadequate shelf space.

You push your fingers into the windowpane, watching the glass stretch and bubble, and then blow gently until each pops free. The glass orbs reshape and settle. They float away like dandelion seeds, like unspoken words between friends who wished they were lovers.

My team sees the chamomile and the thyme sprouting, the goats enjoying the greens and think this will be a nice peaceful place. Nobody notes the dragon eggs about to hatch. When the people just dropped off raise and take care of the dragons, their financial woes will be over for good.

Life is too short to spend on books you hate. We have too many books we'd love and not nearly enough time.
