Hot take. Dubbed is the more authentic experience Compared to subs if you don’t speak Japanese. If one considers what a Japanese person would experience then they would be seeing visuals paired with their spoken language. Played this album of PS2 remixes while we were in the car the other day, and @wizardofloneliness.bsky.social 's remix of the save music from ICO came on. Ben said it made him think of Ico and Yorda dancing to it, and now I picture them doing the Orange Justice dance from Fortnite on the couches.

I complain a lot about writing in video games being naval gazey yet lacking any real substance. Final Fantasy tactics is different. This is actually prescient writing which uses the correct structures and which carries poetry to it like no other game I’ve played save perhaps vagrant story.

Overall the setup is pretty cool. Model discovers she has a demon in her and is tasked with killing other demons, only to realize that the way people use others is the truly demonic thing. Sadly the majority of the episodes take a monster of the week format and little progression happens. 1/2

At the end of this anime and it’s been a bit of a slog tbh. This show did not need to be 26 episodes. The concepts are really cool but it’s held back by not being an ova.

As a writer a teacher, and someone who focuses on literature more so than commercial fiction, I find the writing and dialogue in most video games to be their weakest point. Silksong is no different in that regard.

Hot take: the majority of synthwave/outrun music is held back by the lack of variety in drum patterns. It’s boring hearing the exact same beat in every song. Some artists break from that mold but the exception makes the rule in this case.
