So, I really like trains. I can lose track of time watching the trains coming and going from the overpass near Vienna's Westbahnhof. Since I really like trains, I randomly started liking train photos on Bluesky. Now my feed is filled with more trains than it is with beer. Prost!

A "counter-factual": What would the history of beer (or the history of anything, for that matter) look like without myths and legends? I ask this as a historian, but also one who is decidedly *not* a positivist historian. (The myths and legends we tell ourselves can be revealing for historians.)

Today's the anniversary of Francesco di Paola's death. Why's that important? Turn Paola into Paulaner, and there you have it. Starting in 1651, the monks brewed a particularly strong beer each spring to honour the founder of their order. That beer eventually became Salvator.

Running this up the flagpole again. I mean, what can be more fun than getting on a bike and riding around a scenic lake with the Alps as a backdrop — AND topping it all off with a beer? Chiemsee. If you don't know the place, write it down and head there next time you're in Bavaria. Prost!

Mass-market Japanese beer may not be my favourite beer in the world, but paired with okonomiyaki, it's just fine. (And Yebisu is among the better beers widely available in Japan.) Throwback to Tokyo earlier this month. Kanpai!

Apropos of absolutely nothing other than beer pix. This is one of my faves: Dolomitenhütte near Lienz in East Tirol. Bonus trivia points: East Tirol is an Austrian exclave. Worth noting: Loncium (in Carinthia) brews some fine beer.
