1/ I've always had poor recollection of episodic perceptual details and only found an explanation a few years ago when I discovered I have aphantasia. Since my episodic memory is mostly unconscious and faded (aphantasic episodic memory), it doesn't carry as much info as ordinary episodic memory.

IMO aphantasia is lower-grade, unconscious or mostly unconscious imagery. Aphantasic imagery is not quite functionally equivalent to normal imagery. 1/
