Radically pedestrian urban planning. Chicago-centric. ✶✶✶✶
pinned post!
I took a picture earlier this week that I think encapsulates the isolation and danger of living in a city that doesn’t

and a neighborhood where reactionaries want to tear out an under-construction safety project on Archer Avenue. It’s a message about priorities.

A government that picks and chooses which citizens it protects through cognizant design decisions is a very Trumpian idea. Shame that Illinois, from the general assembly to the Supreme Court to the local municipalities, prefers to see some road users as ‘permitted, not intended’.

We did find a few people who were unsheltered last night. We also found a few tents without anyone inside, which hopefully means they went somewhere warmer.

During severe winter weather, our No. 1 goal is to keep service operating as safely and as close to schedule as possible. To meet that goal, our staff receives extensive training on winter-specific issues and equipment is thoroughly tested and prepared to ensure it’s ready for the winter.

it's no surprise but the park district can criminalize you for going to the bathroom outside why don't we leave park district bathrooms open 24 hours, especially if they have an external door? we could use more sharps containers in bathrooms, i bet SEIU would be amenable to increasing staffing

This is a policy failure. If Chicago had installed signal priority on this section of Ashland, the X9 bus would not be stopped here. It would be boarding passengers and/or moving.

“The estimated 230,000-square-foot store will offer shoppers general merchandise, household items and groceries. There will also be about 800 parking spaces.” That’s one parking space per 288sqft of retail space, which for 8’x10’ parking stalls means a parking-to-retail area ratio of about 3.5:1

Ok, last limited-stop X9 bus of the night, can it catch up to the all-stops 9 bus that was two minutes ahead? We are in the part of the route that doesn’t have signal priority, which is also the high-ridership central portion.
