There’s something magical about physics-based animation. When we use springs instead of Bézier curves, we tend to get way smoother motion. Up until recently, we’ve needed to use JS libraries for this, but a modern feature lets us emulate springs in native CSS. ✨ Just published a new post:

With all the excitement of (Same-Document) View Transitions (and more VT features) becoming Baseline Newly available (yay! 🎉), one might overlook the inclusion of the moveBefore() method. This method is a pretty big deal as it allows you to move elements around the DOM while preserving their state.

View transitions are in every browser now ✨

There are 2 new pseudo classes landing for scroll-markers: :target-before and :target-after :target-current { background: black; } :target-before { background: lavender; } :target-after { outline: 1px solid gray; } Lands in Chrome 142 (stable in 2 weeks)

inherit() is going to be absolutely huge for working with CSS custom properties. Two big things it'll enable: Nested indentation: --indent: calc(inherit(--indent, 0) + 1); Overridable design token defaults: --primary-color: inherit(--primary-color, blue);

A new View Transitions-related feature we shipped in Chrome 140 is the ability to nest ::view-transition-group() pseudos. This is useful for retaining visual effects such as clipping, move elements as part of a group, etc. developer.chrome.com/docs/css-ui/...

`field-sizing` on `<input>` is really handy for groups of editable chips!

For those following along, Chrome is moving forward with shipping interest invokers, backed by a "Supportive" W3C TAG review. After 3+ years of prototype iteration, accessibility review, developer feedback, and standards discussions, it's clear that developers want this feature.
