I haven't been able to get out much for the last week or so, but I enjoyed a brief visit with a small group of wild turkeys in a neighborhood park yesterday! I couldn't tell if they were flinging some of the apples around intentionally, or just losing their grasp, but it was entertaining. 🪶 #birds

Okay. Wow. 😭 The GoFundMe is at fully 90%, in under a day. I cannot express enough appreciation for this, ever. I am ... Contemplating raising the goal a bit to incorporate the ~$2K I've already paid towards Gen's care, because it was a hard hit and I'm struggling. But I feel torn about it.

Apparently I am allowed to send thank-you postcards to donors. I hope people will send me their mailing addresses, if they're comfortable. (I'm including contact info in the thank-you messages I send.)

I had a magical experience on Saturday. After catching blink-and-you'll-miss-it glimpses all morning, this (female or immature) ruby-throated hummingbird landed on a branch not far away and stayed to preen. 🥹 I still can't believe I got to see, much less photograph. #birds 🪶

I love #birds (and animals) in general, but secretly, the species I find myself identifying with the most is probably the gray catbird. This one, at Rock Meadow in Belmont a couple of weeks back, could not seem to decide if it would rather eat all the silky dogwood berries, or just keep yelling. 🪶

So um. The vet just called with the pathology report on my cat and IT'S NOT WHAT THEY THOUGHT. It's still not GOOD, we have to do meds and probably very expensive surgery and she's "cautiously optimistic" but he MIGHT. BE OKAY. OH MY GOD. 😭

Today I received permission from my town to do some solo invasive plant removal at a local sanctuary! I'm especially psyched bc, while they hold occasional community maintenance days, I often struggle with more socially-oriented group contexts. This is a common challenge for me wrt volunteering.

Just ran into my old next door neighbor and her trans kiddo, who is growing so much and looks so happy in their skin. I had this heart-clutching moment of gratitude that we live in Mass, and fear/horror because I know we've become an island in an encroaching sea.
