Good things come in threes. Earlier this year, Paula published her first paper from her
#PhD
, now received the CMSZH Travel Award for the best talk at
#ChemPosium
, and was awarded a UZH Candoc Grant. What a hat-trick! Huge congratulations, Paula! πππ

A word of encouragement or a hug can go a long way. It helps us get through journeys where the end is so far away that we cannot even see it. The support of others makes all the difference. So give it if you can, and ask for it if you need it. β€οΈ

Interested in non-functional organic magnetic switches? We actually do want to make them work β thatβs why we study the ones that donβt, so we can make them function :-) Check out our new preprint π

Stable Tribrominated Phenalenyl Radical Exhibiting Long-Lived Luminescence from a MonomerβΟ-Dimer Equilibrium
Open-shell organic radicals exhibit exceptional photophysical properties due to their unique electronic structures. Herein, we report the 2,5,8-tribromophenalenyl radical (Br-PLY) as a stable, emissive phenalenyl derivative. Br-PLY shows a monomerβΟ-dimer equilibrium in solution and emits light from its monomeric radical state. Its high air stability (t1/2 β 40 h) and long-lived emission (Ο = 252 ns) demonstrate the potential of phenalenyl radicals as promising luminescent materials beyond trityl-based systems.
