1994 winner Charlie McGettigan will return his trophy to the EBU in protest of Israel's inclusion. "In support of Nemo I would like to return my trophy to the EBU as well. Unfortunately our win was in 1994, but if I do find it I will return [it]". [📹 IPSC]

Last weird internet thing of the year. In two weeks we'll be holding the third annual Fishmas: a competition in which people simultaneously blind-compete to catch the biggest fish in a fishing game to win a free hat. Happy Fishing! rules & info:

So, yesterday Eurovision made a decision to swap Spain, Ireland, Netherlands and Slovenia (and possibly Iceland and Belgium too) for one (1) Israel. This begs the question, what next? I presume the EBU are hoping that they've taken a hit but now they can stem the bleeding. But can they? 🧵

i'm always amazed by what public online nerd photo collections exist and what doesn't. like you'd think there'd be a single website glossary of all the home waste bin designs/colours by country & region, but nope! surprisingly not!

to the excitement of nobody but me: the weird number plate that drove past me last year that looked like a normal uk one with the tajikistan flag on the side was actually a uk one with a *kurdistan* flag sticker stuck on the side, as i finally saw it whilst parked so got to have a proper look

it's a shame that the "delayed reaction" part of autism is typically related to sadness/trauma, like what about listening to an album not thinking much about it in the moment and then a couple weeks later your brain's suddenly like "oh yeah that was good!"

yesterday i watched 3 separate videos on generally chill things where someone unexpectedly said the r-word. the main thing in common with the videos was that they were made by younger americans. idk what's happening over there but it needs to stop.

the fact that so many people frame autism as “a problem that needs to be solved” is a constant reminder that being “not normal” isn’t acceptable to a large amount of the world. it’s the same reason there’s a trans panic right now too. they think people are defective

every time there's political violence discourse i think about how jo cox was assassinated in broad daylight by a fascist who shouted "britain first" as he shot her, and now nine years later her party is dedicating every moment in power to placating the ideology of her murderer
