Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. Gypsy and Traveller communities are twice as likely to be depressed and are three times more likely to be anxious than others. Our casework indicates a disproportionately high prevalence of suicide among the communities we work with. (1/3)

Remember the moral panic around the gypsy and traveller communities for several years? The front pages. The hysteria. The voyeuristic reports. The protests outside their settlements. The "legitimate concerns" by locals. Weren't they expressed in precisely the same terms as anti-refugee bigotry now?

This is a great thread on the nightmare of being an ECR. History is a cesspit. My experience is expertise & experience arent' that important, publications are a waste of time. My advice for any PhD student is know the person hiring & be as middle class as possible (ideally as white as possible).
