I wasn’t really aware of it in the 80s but John Brynes work was really ubiquitous in that era. He did so Kant many images I associated with comics from when I was growing up.

The iterative nature of DC Comics has been on my mind lately. Take Batman. I’m old enough to remember the campy Adam West version, and Frank Miller helping to change comics forever with Dark Knight Returns. Same character, but completely different interpretations.

There’s a scene in the pilot of the Harley tv show where Ivy keeps tying Harley up with vines so she won’t run off to look for the Joker 😅 As a longtime Ivy fan I felt seen. It was pretty funny 😆

I read a lot of Wonder Woman a few months back, and one of my favorite stories was the Gods of Arkham arc (WW 164-167) The Children of Aries-- perennial heavy hitters from Diana's rogue's gallery-- possessed several of Batman's heavies, giving us Poison Ivy as Eris AKA Strife. It was solid fun.

Maybe the best thing the Trails series ever did is add good maps for every area. There is a lot of hidden stuff in these games and it helps that you can find most things just by fast traveling to an area and checking the map. It’s just the right balance of quality of life and missable stuff 🎉

Still can’t believe @itsxanthor.bsky.social is the voice for Altina. She’s one of my favorite VAs and I usually spot her voice right away, but some reason I missed it until chapter 3 of Cold Steel 3 😅

Re-sharing my first essay about a video game, for no particular reason on March 5 😭💝

The Green Knight arc in Poison Ivy feels brilliant. It plays up how she’s adjacent to Alan Moore’s champion of the Earth thing, while nodding at Ivy’s roots 🙏 In this one an unknown figure has positioned her as a messiah to an eco extremism cult; something she would have done in the old stories 😅

I don’t know if Ivy has ever met up with THE Swamp Thing, but this is one of his predecessors 🙏 It would be cool to see her take up that role as The Green’s champion tho 💕💪

I had the yellow Cliffjumper toy, and he’s always kind of been the alternative bumblebee to me. What I did not remember: he’s actually in the second season of the G1 cartoon a lot, often in place of bumblebee 🐝

The Poison Ivy series celebrated 24 issues with a double-sized edition of short stories (which I love). Once of them kind of retcons the classic Ivy/Batman conflict, back when she was simply a member of Batman’s rotating rogues gallery. A new perspective on the Ivy experience I grew up with 💝🙏

The Poison Ivy series is very DC in how it’s iterative. Ivy’s decades of extremely out-of-pocket behavior are acknowledged, but she’s got a new look and new crew and she’s trying to do better. I love that for her 🎉💕🙏

Cold Steel 3 may well go down as That Time the Trails Series Got All Thirsty (with mixed results). But it’s also impressing on me how Rean shows Zhou Yun level focus and determination. I never noticed how much Rean resembles the original Musou hero, in how he carries himself amid chaos 😅

I love that Poison Ivys series is still ongoing. About 95% of pop culture for me is about discovering stuff I love, after it’s over 😬

DC with the Women’s History Month variant covers 🎉💝

Marvel is revisiting the Outback X-men era this summer. I kind of bounced off it the first time; I didn’t love the art style of that era. The cover art for the revival looks much nicer to me.

If people learn one thing today I hope it’s this: refugees and asylum seekers do indeed leave their homelands to avoid repression and worse.

Finally tried the Harley show…and it’s pretty good? A lot of fun DC Easter eggs (like Harley originally wearing the animated series costume) and I love that Ivy has such a big part in it. Definately one of the better DC adaptations; they get tv right more often than the movies 😅

The G1 Transformers cartoon straight-up had a human-created ninja robot with a light saber straight out of Star Wars 🎉💗

I very much appreciated how the Poison Ivy series reframes her adversarial relationship with Batman. So far, this series is right up there with my favorite portrayals of her. It’s not for everyone, but it’s definitely for me.

I almost dropped the Poison Ivy series early, because I thought it was a bit dark. But I circled back and I’m glad I did. I like the way it reimagines a lot of things. I think that’s an area where DC shines in general. And that artwork- Pam has never looked better 💝

The Floronic Man is a perfect example of how Alan Moore elevated fringe characters at Swamp Thing. Floronic Man was a d-list villain that Moore used to rewrite Swamp Thing and reposition him as an earth elemental champion of “the green.” And he was later used for a similar pivot w/ Poison Ivy.

The Phantom Thieves are well represented in Cold Steel 3. Seriously: TIL all of them had roles in this game 😆 The final puzzle piece was Xander Mobus, who plays a straight-laced head instructor (never would have guessed it was him). BTW: Megan Taylor Harvey was the VA for Sophie in Strikers🎉

It was funny to learn that Xanthe is voice of Altina; I love her work and can usually spot her voice right away but somehow missed it this time 😅

The Trials series uses a lot of top voice acting talent and Cold Steel 3 is no exception 🎉

Alan Moore is the first thing that comes to mind when talking 80s Swamp Thing. But the art in those comics was fantastic 🎉

I love that Peter Cullen and Frank Welker are still getting out there at conventions. It give me hope they’ll be at Boston Fan Expo this year 🙏💝
