A new lava flow started early on 14 August 2025 from a vent at 2980 m elevation on #Etna 's upper south flank, near the site of the February 2025 eruption. Lava is flowing southwest into uninhabited areas.

The massive landslide + tsunami in Alaska on Sunday (10 August; earthquake.alaska.edu/major-landsl...) has sent seismic waves all around the world. This is really an extraordinary event: landslide, glacial failure, tsunami. But to me, the most exciting part is the sequence of tiny earthquakes that occurred before the slide. 1/n

A longer sonification with slower sound rate factor (1000) gives a clearer and more detailed impression of the evolution of the "drumbeat" seismicity, which continues with increasing frequency right up to the largeest (landslide failure?) signal, but not after.

Amazing how the precursor seismicity has a very regular drum-beat with increasing rate of occurrence. This is clear in a sonified version:

It has been a busy couple of days! There was a large landslide and tsunami in SE Alaska, in Tracy Arm, Sunday morning. Luckily, no injuries or casualties were reported. This region is outside of our current landslide coverage, but we were able to get a quick location after hearing about the event. 🧵
