Awful policy. We have a brilliant community charity here - people donate clothes, shoes, toys, food, household things etc etc, distributed out locally to those in need regardless of their circumstances. They also have refugees and asylum seekers helping out.

What a shitty policy. Heaven forbid that traumatised, displaced children should have a toy to make them feel better. And the next time a politician spouts some self-congratulatory platitudinous guff about what a compassionate country we are I hope they are reminded of this.

National flags don’t bother me at all. People want to waste money on flying them and that is fine by me. Making a big story over the flags does bother me as it is fanning yet another dividing line and hyper focussing on yet another minority interest.

I'm sure that this is the case. The threat of violence has always underpinned far-right politics. It's why the appeasement of the far-right by so much of the media and by mainstream politicians is so dangerous.

I wonder if part of it is also that (some of) those attending the asylum seeker protests explicitly or implicitly threaten violence and disorder. They are frightening, and politicians both stoke and fear them, in a way that polite peaceful protesters simply aren’t.

While relatively small gatherings of far-right protesters are reported as the start of some kind of national civil revolt, much larger protests on other issues are routinely ignored at best, and openly demonised at worst www.adambienkov.co.uk/p/anywhere-b...

Reminds me of Brexit. 100s of thousands of us marched again and again in protest but the pitiful March for Brexit and a few hundred threatening violence around the Houses of Parliament attracted all the attention 😞

At Edgbaston where the DJ is playing “I Need A Miracle” and honestly the Phoenix are beyond even that.

We can be this country. Or we can be the country that welcomes genuine refugees as we platitudinously tell our selves we are. But we can’t be both and if people vote for this they are revealing themselves to be heartless & lacking any sense of social responsibility and clearly not bothered to be so.
