The last several weeks have been crazy: a cold that seemingly didn't want to leave (or resurfaced), a stolen phone, struggling with finances, and other travel-related headaches beyond my control. But I'm so grateful to help take care of orphaned baby vervet monkeys, even when I'm coveted in gunk 🐒

Sure, I'm feeling crappy yet again, with a seemingly continuous cough and now irritated eyes that are crusty in the morning, but it's Christmas and I'm in South Africa helping take care of baby monkeys.

I am now posting from my new phone (an android, how foreign) after having successfully gotten a SIM card, which was then activated. Will probably get a new iPhone when I'm back in the US, but this will do for now.

Even as someone who doesn’t love humans, this is insulting.

Ok so I have a new phone but should have gotten a physical SIM right away. Oops! Once I take care of that tomorrow morning, I should be back to taking pics, using WhatsApp, and having full use of a phone.

Using my iPad (terrible app btw) to send a quick update: two days ago, my phone was snatched in Brazil (Sao Paolo). I’m ok but it was scary and I need to get a new phone ASAP. In South Africa for over a moth now. Not having a phone is wild!

Holy canoli, just realized that with my stop in Brazil (on the way to South Africa) I haw now been to 6 continents! Would love to go to Antarctica but it’s not an easy trip & is expensive. Definitely wouldn’t do that one alone.

Can people please stop reposting or posting things that have the orange fascist’s face in them? I agree with everything I’m seeing but can’t stand to see that. Makes me physically sick.

Crazy couple of travel days: yesterday j took the ferry from Ometepe island to the mainland of Nicaragua, then an early morning flight today to Panama, then in a few hours a flight to São Paulo (the overnight), and finally flights to South Africa (Johannesburg and then Durban).

What a run of movies.

Some of the best movies ever made were by Rob Reiner. They made us laugh and think: The Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally, A Few Good Men. And he was a force on screen as well in All in the Family and so many films. What a tragic loss. Words fail with news like this.

I am devastated by this loss. Both Rob and his late father Carl were wonderful progressive activists and Rob made some of my favorite movies of all time.

I don’t have children but I’m terrified because I’ve been to Providence numerous times and always felt safe. I fucking hate my country’s inability to have sensible gun laws. Happy to be out of it right now.
