You have to wonder how much the city is spending on these useless shelters just so they have a legal defence that allows them to evict homeless people from parks. It also makes you wonder how that money could be better spent on permanent solutions instead.

Higher taxes. Huge amounts of debt. Who in Ptbo actually wants this new arena? With cost of living skyrocketing, so many people out of jobs, this arena is bad business. It needs to be killed.

I've had a lot of thoughts on high rise apartments over the past few years. I went from "Ptbo isn't the right place" to "well maybe smaller ones are alright." Now? Build em. Build as many as you can. We won't see a significant drop in rent prices without them.

No. Absolutely not. We can't afford a $50+ million arena. There's homelessness on every street. I'm tired of the excuses from council. We can't afford a luxury like this when so many are struggling for the essentials. How much burden will council put on taxpayers to afford such vapid luxuries?

Major employers in #PTBO are laying off or shutting down. Rent rates are sky high and we aren't building new housing. Cost of living continues escalating. At what point is the situation just completely messed up beyond repair? Why aren't we embracing more radical solutions?

If I had a nickle for every time the city of #PTBO approved a new street design for Charlotte Street, I'd have enough nickles to buy a coffee from Dreams of Beans on the completely unrenovated Charlotte Street.

Leal is absolutely setting this up to flex his strong mayor powers and grant the police a 15% budget increase without the consent of council. This flies in the face of municipal democracy itself. It's a shameful display of the unilateral power than Ford has allowed mayors to abuse.

I don't think it's actually a bad thing to pay #PTBO city councillors more. The pay they get for the amount of work required makes it so the position is only viable for retirees or folks with passive income like business owners. The mayor, on the other hand? I think they're paid enough.

I fundamentally disagree with the Strong Mayor Powers. They're clearly designed for those politically aligned with Ford to push his developer-friendly agenda. However, if you're going to use them, then this is how it should be used. It's about time.

If we stalled every affordable or transitional housing project because the neighbours hated it, nothing would ever get built. Despite what some city councillors may think, you can't build it at the edge of the city where it won't offend anyone. People are GOING to live next to them.
