Explanatory key for the Wapping Goods Station reconstruction - see previous post.

Wapping goods station off park Lane, 1835. Queens dock and the vibrant, diverse 'sailortown' behind. The station is in a cutting to access the tunnel - top left- from to Edge Hill 1 mile plus away. No locomotives in the town; trains ran by gravity to the dock - cable (steam engine driven) back.

Manchester Liverpool Road station - version 4; numerous corrections and addition of roof over passenger departures (almost imperceptible) thanks Ant D and Vrs.

Finally, in the Liverpool Road Manchester project. Two info graphics summarising the story of the Liverpool and Manchester railway terminus. Am I the last person to realise Hunts Bank station (Victoria station) was briefly a terminus of the L&MR (1844/5) prior to the GJR taking it over. So....

Re; last post. Studies of three key Stephenson locomotives in that early 5 year period ( ala Bury/Shaw), establishing classes and standards for many decades to come. A remarkable journey over such a short time.

Continuing the study of L&MR locomotives, a one-pager info sheet focusing on the first 5 years, dominated somewhat by Stephenson. (post Fanny Kemble).

Always an interesting stage in the discovery process. Roughing out the landscape around Wapping station; Liverpool dock terminus of the Liverpool and Manchester Railway; c. 1830. So few sources here, so many questions.

First draft of an illustration showing two of 8 construction shafts or 'eyes' along the Wapping tunnel in Liverpool - during its construction in 1827/8. A plan shows the location of all 8 shafts (see R H G Thomas p39).

Still baffled by the Whiston 1 bridge issue. Discussion board attached and grateful for any comments, opinions, musings, insults etc. as always. Find it hard to believe there was no station (or halt??) at Whiston (until 1990??). Originally wondered if this was ex 'Bottom of Whiston Incline' .

@lmrailway.bsky.social Hi Paul. re Whiston bridges -1830. The bridge list shows Whistons 1 and 2; both stone. The OS map for 1840odd seems to show a level crossing, two wooden bridges and bridge 2. A later bridge roughly takes the place of the western most wooden bridge; struggling to see bridge 1.

Liverpool Road Station Version 3. Multiple amendments (stonework, building details, street furniture, horses etc). Still tbc for Version 4 - a) coal-drop detail, b) departures roof, c) arrivals exit. Thanks very much all for comments etc.

Thanks very much for your analysis etc. around the coaldrops Vrs and I am just catching up. I had discharge into the Station, but had another look (attached) and wondered what might be best guess re discharge direction/design. Should I just be showing a blank wall??!! Anybody else got owt?

Manchester weekend. Visited Liverpool Road station for 1st time on a day apparently like 15.9.1830 by courtesy of a family trip to the amazing Hockney experience at the Factory surprisingly close by.

I attach a discussion board containing a speculative study of the coal drops at the Eastern end of the Liverpool Road terminus, Manchester as they may have looked in 1835/6. I'll keep researching but does anybody know of any images or descriptions that might help? Any other interpretations? Thanks

Block 1/bridges (panorama project). I've seen the TT Bury picture described as Whiston incline/Sutton incline/Broad green to Roby. If here, then Bury is standing on no. 1 Park's bridge?? (next one - no.2- is brick; though could you get that height and are distant ones in the Olive Mt. cutting?).

Just on the design of successive cisterns. Attached discussion board attempts a summary of the position: following a probable red herring. I think currently at least, that the water tank is pretty much as shown by Bury throughout the 1830s - until later works/expansion cause a new build.

Discussion board re: a potential reverse view of the Liverpool Road arrivals station. Possibly v arcane problem, but views, images, opinions, ridicule, superior knowledge etc. v welcome as ever.

A further speculative study. (Lpooll Rd. terminus, Manchester): how the arrivals station may have looked in a) 1835/6 and b) 1837/8. Assuming the latter an open fronted building at 2nd floor (2 colonnades). Extensive carriage wharf inside; Many stables, stores, kitchens below. Pedestrian exit??

Developing views on the viaduct and possible 1836 arrivals position (below). A mistake to place arrivals here?? - scores of passengers, tons of luggage, road carriages; unless there was some easy way off. Would a Water street footbridge fit, or indeed help? Did the S slope serve only the cistern?

Continuing research into the Edge Hill engine station, an approximation of the rope winding mechanisms that operated through the Wapping tunnel for dock-bound goods wagons (gravity out/cable back).
