This month, Manchester Cider Club is delighted to welcome Brennan’s Cider, from Sefton, Merseyside.

The first Pet Nat Perry from Fouçette pears, bought from a nearby farm. Aromatic and tannic - with local wine bases lees added - “kind of cool”

More Method Champagnoiserie here with a 100% quince. A dangerous move.

Refermented using the Champagne method. Not yet released. Should age improve.

Unusually for a West Counties cider maker this is made from the eating apple - Egremont Russet - clean - no wood. Boozy nose and clean acidity.

Again not fully fermented ciders- phenolic/high tanning/ low acid - Balls Bitter Sweet - risky cider - tried to retain sweetness via keeving.

Driven by the fruit and a humble approach @littlepomona.bsky.social produce fully fermented ciders .. except the bitter sharp Stoke Red - racked to off dryness (balanced with acid). Very knockbackable

The Chisel Jersey Islay BA single variety held back for the @manchestercider.bsky.social - very characteristic - tannins and acidity vs the smoky-peatiness‘highly phenolic’

Elderflowers have been added to this blend some marginal sweetness and a tad of acetobacter. Brewed very much with food in mind - what can it fit with?

Yarlington Mill Single Variety; originally released last year, with some time in an Islay barrel. Smoother and less peaty than the previous.

A dry Brit-hopped blend (YM/CJ) kept in a Well-used Whisky bottle - so not dominated. In the future the sourcing might be nearer

An enormous thankyou to James & Will from @balancebrew.bsky.social for leading us through 7 wonderful ciders last night. After trying their inaugural barrel aged ciders last year, we had very high hopes. We were certainly not let down.

A wonderful night last night for @manchestercider.bsky.social club. We presented seven of our own ciders from the 2023 harvest of Yarlington Mill and Chisel Jersey varieties. We had four barrel aged single variety offerings plus three blended ciders aged on hops, sage and elderflower respectively.

Congratulations to Horwich and Greater Bolton trailblazers @b33r-at-33.bsky.social on being considered so highly within the region. In addition to their cider and beer range they have an increasing community activity focus

April Cider Club sees Albert Johnson up from Ross on Wye Cider & Perry, who helped us launch Manchester Cider Club in March 2019 returning annually. Ross cider, run by the Johnson family at Broome Farm, has been making cider & perry since the 1930s.

Part of a very old Perry orchard (Perry Farm) Sorbitol and extra sweetness 3% + a table perry I suppose

The Teign Valley blend from very old trees . The nose changes after a few minutes, with the fruit a little reluctant to come out at first. A lower pH , and a deeper colour

An Exe Valley blend from an old orchard - cold racked and from multiple pickings - some Brown’s and some Tremlett’s Bitter - residual sugar

A very easy fruity medium Yarlington Mill Dabinett keeved blend. Very easy drinking

Slightly softer blend of Trenlett’s, Dabinett and other odds and sods; dry, but with some sweetness on the nose
