Secrets of the bees: Revealing the sneaky genius of nature's brightest thinkers
New science is showing that natureâs vital pollinators are smarter than we ever imagined. Hereâs why that discovery should change what we think about one of the worldâs most important animals.

A new Science study shows that bumble bees can position a ball underneath a fake âflowerâ to reach a reward, suggesting they can exhibit spontaneous problem-solving and challenging the notion that such advanced cognitive abilities are exclusive to large-brained vertebrates.

Bumble bees can apparently play with balls, count, recognize faces, & perceive rhythm. A new study out today in

argues they can also solve novel tasks spontaneously without explicit training, challenging the idea that such cognitive skills are exclusive to large-brained vertebrates.đČđđ§Șđ

1/4 Bumblebees can solve a task inspired by Köhlerâs famous test with chimpanzees. They had to reach an artificial âflowerâ, and to do so they had to integrate prior information about a ball that could be used to reach it. (paper)
