Friday afternoon, I was waiting for a Peter Pan bus when a New Flyer DE41LF passed by on route 25! I was just informed by a friend that, as of yesterday, the DE41LFs have all been taken out of service! Farewell to a bus model that defined what the Philly streetscape looked like from 2000-2015 or so!

There are only a few SEPTA DE41LF buses left in service, and in the last few days, they’ve been doing a bunch of runs on bus routes 5 and 25, which, conveniently, are right in my neighborhood! Gonna miss these icons of the 2000s and 2010s Philly transit landscape!!!

Some days life sucks but then other days you’re riding your bike down a lively, hopping Frankford Ave on a breezy, sunny summer night listening to Winter in LA by Japanese Breakfast on the way to get some outdoor drinks with your friendos and you remember life is worth living :’)

Right now I’m on a 25 bus rumbling down the ultra-narrow Memphis Street and all the people sitting on stoops are waving to the bus driver and it’s an utter joy ❤️ I get the efficiency that will come from taking this bus off this street but I’m gonna miss moments like that :’)

They were out of cheesesteaks by the time we got to the front of the line, but it was surreal to meet Kosuke (the guy who runs that legendary Philly-themed bar in Tokyo!!)

SEPTA is incredibly efficient with the very limited amount of funding it gets - giving it more funding at the state level is the only reasonable way SEPTA can fix valid concerns like timeliness, cleanliness, and safety without cutting service!! FUND SEPTA!!!
