💣 It is not true that Rousseau confined elite accountability to elections! 🎯 Great work by @arthurghins.bsky.social in combining accountability and deliberation to highlight one of the lesser-known and underappreciated mechanisms of direct democracy: the recall referendum. A must-read.

A new article in @apsrjournal.bsky.social , in which I revisit Rousseau to propose a model of executive accountability combining a national jury—a citizens’ assembly chosen by lot, tasked with examining executive actions—with the possibility of a recall referendum.
