The "fool me once" rule: As an editor, if I find a couple of full sentences that are lifted verbatim from another manuscript, with no (or wrong) attribution, I am just not going to invest any further time on that submission. I wish more people knew this. It would save time for everyone involved.

My best illustration of the brain-gut relationship comes from a patient I saw whose disease went into remission rapidly once a major life stressor was no longer in the picture. My fantasy RCT is one where half of the patients with UC get a big problem in their lives solved.

Well, it was bound to happen some time. I received what I think is an entirely AI-generated manuscript submission. There were bigger red flags, but a very minor one was the references. They nailed APA's peculiar style for individual references (rare!), but then numbered the alphabetized list.
