Interesting debate about product reviews after MKBHD blasted the Humane AI Pin. I think there's a valid discussion around being tasteful in criticism - but it blows my mind that the Humane pin was the flash point. It was bad when they announced it. Why is anyone surprised that it's bad on release?

I entirely forgot to post anything here. So here's an Asus Zephyrus with Liquid Metal leaking all over the CPU 👌 There's a line of silicone sealant to keep it contained, but I suspect heat and expansion allowed the LM to blow through it. Took some cleaning, but the laptop survived!

So I'm playing Palworld, and saw this interesting scene... I was exploring this area fairly quickly, so this neat grid of sleeping Foxparks spawned at night and instantly went to sleep, staying perfectly in grid and alignment with the spawn points.

This is what greeted me when I turned on my work PC this morning. This is Edge on default settings (I don't use it). How is the average person supposed to make sense of this screen? At a technical level, Edge is completely fine, but my god the default experience is awful to look at.

So I'm half way through season 1 of Invincible... man... this show is intense. It's really, really good. Just as you think the violence is gratuitous, it makes a point about how this would be the reality. Just as you think a character is a shallow insert, they reveal their motivations. Outstanding.

Lego Fortnite is a very big symptom of Epic pushing Fortnite as a metaverse - something Epic have talked about for a long time. Fortnite isn't just a game anymore, it's a platform. This isn't new, but I think it's only now that I'm agreeing with them.

I've started dipping my toes into Stellaris after a lot of bullying from a friend, and man, I'd have tried it a lot sooner if someone had said "have you played Sins of a Solar Empire?" But also that's a really obscure game so I'm not surprised either.

The new version of Handbrake is now doing cropping on GPU, not CPU. I record 4x 1080p streams as a 4k mosaic, and then transcode it back into 4x 1080p files later, so I was extremely CPU-bottlenecked. This update has made my transcoding literally twice as fast - big W for the handbrake team.

Finished Half Life: Alyx. It is indeed, the pinnacle of VR gaming. The 3rd act is a hell of a ride.

I recorded a talking-head video where I read a script whilst NVIDIA Broadcast's Eye Contact filter made it look like I was looking at the camera the whole time. There are some... interesting... artefacts. Probably won't use it again, but neat experiment and proof of concept😅

Having spent the morning un-hecking my Google Drive; its a confusing mess to set up these days. Multi-step process to configure it to just mirror your online drive to a folder on the computer, and do nothing else. May actually switch to One Drive in the near future.

I stopped drinking caffeine in the evenings and it's been way easier to get up in the morning. This seems obvious, except I'm still going to bed late. If anything I've been staying up later than usual. Maybe just having less caffeine in my system is improving sleep quality, rather than hours.

I spent yesterday evening watching the entire story of MK11 as a 3hr30min movie. Like, not while I played a game, just, sat and watched it. Don't get me wrong it was rad, but it frustrates me that just sitting and watching something is so unfulfilling to me. I need to be doing things all the time.

Gosh. I was aiming for 1hr50min tonight. Smashed PB twice in a row. Granted the PBs were super scuffed anything-will-do-just-to-get-splits runs, but still, I didn't think my current route could go this low this easily. 1hr35 definitely possible without doing big skips.

Practising my Ori and the Blind Forest speed running. Just doing full-game at the moment, I think I can get down to 1hr50min, but my target is 1hr30, and that's going to require me to learn at least the Mistywoods/Forlorn skip.

My custom PCBs arrived so I've started assembling my new VR FBT trackers. Bigger than my old ones, but easier to charge, vastly superior sensor, and bigger straps for better stability. Testing tonight was very successful - just got to assemble the rest of them!
