Two years ago this weekend we took a trip to Helsinki. such a wonderful human-scale place. Multiple transit options, bike lanes everywhere, walkable. Cars felt like equals, not kings.

A small story that may help brighten your day: This morning, cycling to the gym, I came across a car on the side of the road, out of gas, driver in distress. I stopped to check on the driver, but what could I do? I was on a bike in my gym clothes, no gas station around. 1/

SHD50 film is proving challenging for me to meter for and develop, but it's really got some potential. This time I set my Pen D all the way down to ISO 16 and developed with FPP-110 (1+31) for 5.5 minutes.

I checked the timestamps, it was exactly 30 minutes from 911 call to police arriving. Some conversation points from the driver: “This road is so dangerous” YES LADY YOU ARE THE PROBLEM, ITS YOU. “You can’t see around this curve at all” YES LADY THATS WHY THEY PAINTED THE DOUBLE YELLOW LINES.

Officially at the point of my bike trip where I got hit by a car. First: I’m okay. Sorta. A driver tried to save a few seconds on their commute by illegally passing on a double yellow without seeing me and came within an inch of ending my life. My left forearm took off her driver side mirror. 🤬
