Found an eBay seller 3D printing splitzers for the Lomo’Instant Wide. Basically masks half (or a quarter) of the lens while you shoot multiple exposures. Tested it on the cats, my go-to subjects.

So here is my copy of the Whitehouse Beacon camera that came to me thanks to @baroncalamity.bsky.social who ran across it at a thrift store. It takes 127 film, so I guess I will be buying a couple of rolls of film so I can test it out. For an 80-year-old camera, it looks to be in great shape!

Would one of these count as a #folder? Anybody acquainted with them?

Teacher pet peeve: when students rip paper out of spiral notebooks and try to turn it in without tearing off the stray fuzzies at the edge of the page.

I love it when students doodle on papers, and I encourage them to do so. For some it is a helpful focus activity and for others it is a creative outlet. For me, it brings joy to the task of paper grading (on the occasions that I still get to grade real paper documents by hand).

A heavy, wet snow fell overnight, covering all the mud left by the melt from last big snowfall in January. Got this shot on the Lomo’Instant Wide. I like the look the camera produces, vignetting and all.

I follow a lot of #film photography YouTubers, but it’s hard to find ones who are not necessarily young, mostly white guys with beanies who seem to have endless travel budgets and corporate sponsorships. Anybody have a recommendation for a YouTuber they really like who maybe breaks this mold?

Thanks to @papashittycams.bsky.social , I can now shoot Instax Wide film. The Lomo Instant Wide offers a lot more in the way of control over exposure than my Instax cameras do.

Picked up an #Instax Mini Link 2 printer secondhand for cheap. Works great and allows me to turn digital photos into analog prints, giving them that distinctive instant film look. I can also use it to print out my 35mm film photos after they have been scanned. Too fun!

I’m no Luddite (obviously, as I tap away on my phone), but I have become an #AI skeptic. In the past 24 hours, I have learned about two very disturbing developments in AI. The implications of each are, well, concerning.

Shot and developed a test roll on the Canon EOS Rebel X. Used full auto mode just to see how well it metered things. About half the photos were underexposed, but I got a few I liked. Film was my usual bulk-rolled ARISTA EDU Ultra 400 developed in Caffenol and scanned on the Epson V600.

And in other news, we came home to a package waiting at the door. Apparently, it was a gift to me from @rockstarballet.bsky.social — three rolls of Kodak Tri-X 400. Will be nice to shoot something that isn’t Arista. Moral of the story: you really can’t go wrong giving film people more film.

Well, my moratorium on buying more camera gear didn’t last long. Picked up an orphan at the thrift store tonight, a Canon EOS Rebel X with a kit lens and a speedlite. Got it for $20. Appears to work perfectly. Will shoot a test roll and see how it comes out.

Help me out here, folks. Lots of you share your #Instax prints, but you manage to get really high-quality photos of them. I keep trying to take photos of them with my iPhone, but when I do, I end up with reflections on the images. Are you scanning them? Any tips you may have are welcome.

I see the trolls are out on Bluesky. I’ve not really experienced that issue here previously, but I guess as more and more people take refuge here, we’re going to end up with some bad actors who live to do nothing more than be argumentative, pedantic, and nasty. Stay kind, Bluesky.

My iPhone just felt the need to inform me that my walking steadiness is very low, putting me at a risk for a fall. It then went on to tell me how it knew that and what I could do about it. Seems it only took a month and a half for my “smartphone” to figure out I had a knee replacement done.

It’s National Hot Chocolate Day, it is 18 degrees out with a foot of ice-encrusted snow on the ground that has been there all week & refuses to melt & the US is deep in the shitter. I feel like a cup of cocoa is most definitely in order! Won’t solve anything, but for a moment life will be sweet.

Just spent the afternoon figuring out how to get a new-to-me printer to work (spoiler: it does but needs fresh ink) & in the process of moving things around & plugging and unplugging & fiddling with ink cartridges, I’ll be damned if I didn’t get my old printer to work again! #twoprinterproblem
