I did a comparison of the Yashica Kyocera Samurai x3.0 and the Samurai x4.0. The x4.0 is the winner. Images are more consistently exposed & sharper. Shutter and zoom controls are more responsive. And the x4.0 catches focus much faster than the x3.0.

I get so pissed when I see people hating on Trump by criticizing his weight or making other comments about the size and shape of his body. Look, there are SO many reasons to hate that bastard, but his girth ain’t one of them. Your fat friends and family are listening when you make cracks like that.

I am wondering if and how I can manage to shoot through two rolls today on #halfframe cameras. That will be at least 144 shots! I have a bum knee and can’t walk much or far. Ideas for how I could stay mostly stationary but still get through these two rolls of #film and get interesting pictures?

Well, it’s official. I went from having no Samurais to having two of them in just a couple of days. And they both appear to work. Have test rolls in them both. We’ll see how they do. The x3.0 is the “Grand Prix” (gold) version they made in 1988. #Yashica #Kyocera #halfframe #filmphotography

Developed some very expired Kodak Gold 200 mystery film that was in a Vivitar point-and-shoot thrift store rescue I got recently. There were light leaks and color shifts and it was all vastly underexposed. Just as good #mysteryfilm should be . #filmphotography #believeinfilm #filmisnotdead

A4: While I have a basic Flickr account, I’ve not been using it regularly. I’ve mostly been posting just here on Bluesky. Rarely on Reddit (usually the 110 sub). Or I send pics to friends, either digitally or as prints. I don’t fancy myself photographer enough to “market” anything. #photochat

A1: I’m not much of a photo editor. Most of what you see from me hasn’t been tweaked much, mostly because I haven’t learned how to use Lightroom or any of the other major editing tools. I use Apple’s native Photo app on my MacBook or on my iPhone to do what little editing I do. #photochat

Q2: I have separate bags for each camera as I do not have shelving to store my cameras. The bags serve as storage and protection for my gear. So this question is a hard one. The newest bag I got that I love is a used Peak Design 3L Everyday Sling. It houses my M43 Olympus PEN E-P1. #photochat

Q1: Mostly I walk out with the intention of taking pictures but not always with a plan for what and how I will photograph. Sometimes, though, I just shoot on the fly while I am doing other things. #photochat

I was today years old when I realized I could plug my Charmera directly into my iPhone and transfer files off of it that way. Doh!

The reception for my student #photography exhibit went so well! The winners of the contest were excited, but the part that tickled me most was when I gave the negatives back to the students & they sat there marveling at them, holding them up to the light, pointing out frames they remembered taking.

@rockstarballet.bsky.social didn’t feel well, but he came to school with me today and helped me get the exhibit ready and helped me move two dozen typewriters into storage. Ain’t easy being a teacher’s partner sometimes (mind you, he’s a teacher himself), but I am so grateful for his support.

The students’ photos are up. I had to hang them on the glass because our campus art gallery is occupied through next summer with exhibits that are not focused on student work. This outrages me, but more people will see the images here in the student lounge anyway even if they aren’t well lit.

My mission for the day is to drag my poor husband to school with me so he can help me hang my students’ photos for the exhibit and help me pack up my office in advance of renovations that are set to begin over the holidays — which means moving 23 typewriters and lots of other things to storage.

I excitedly revealed last night to @rockstarballet.bsky.social that I was about to win a replacement #Yashica Samurai at auction, and he said sheepishly, “It’d be okay if you didn’t win that auction maybe.” Come to find out, he bought me a Samurai for my birthday. Now it looks like I will have 2.

Those of you following my students #analog learning experiences this semester, here is an update. Their #photo exhibit opens on Monday, & I picked up their mounted prints on Thursday & sorted through them yesterday. Tomorrow I will go into school to hang the photos & put up the interpretive signage.

Today would have been my parents’ 51st anniversary, but they have both been gone a long time now. Tonight I went to the thrift store where I just so happened to find this album which has their song on it, “You Needed Me,” a song I learned to play on guitar and sing for them when I was a kid.

Put new leatherette on this pair of old beaters. They both could use a CLA, and one could use new light seals. The other has a frame counter that has stopped working. And yet, they take lovely photos, and I have a great set of lenses for them. #filmphotography #Yashica

Found: one mystery disc film negative in an old camera case that came in an auction I won a while back of ShopGoodwill.com. I couldn’t really figure out how to scan the images individually because of the angles, so I just scanned the whole thing to see what was on it. Let’s play Date that Film!

I did a purportedly Bad Thing. I used half a batch of #caffenol on two rolls of #110film then poured it back in with the unused caffenol. Within half an hour, I shot a roll of 120 film & developed it with the half-new/half-used caffenol, extending dev time by 2 mins. It worked! Scans to come.

I have a #PentaxAuto110 that has a shutter glitch. One or two frames every roll, the shutter will hang open. Eventually, it closes on its own. If it doesn’t, I pop out the film cassette, pop it back in, and that usually does the trick. I lose the frame, of course, but that one is lost anyway.

I offered extra credit for students who showed up to class in costume, and this year I got Velma from Scooby Doo, Napoleon Dynamite, a pair of Minions, an assortment of onesie-as-costume folks, and a couple of Adventure Time characters, including Jake the Dog with his own homemade mask. #Halloween

Plans are in place for the student photo exhibit reception: signage is being made, catering is ordered, space is reserved. Now, will the photo lab get the prints made and mounted by deadline — one week from today — so I can pick them up and spend next weekend hanging them? Stay tuned…
