3 years ago today, I took a chance. Wasn’t sure how this would work out for me. With the help of @projectinfant.ie volunteers, we’ve found 6,547 mother & baby home (adoption home etc.) children, 66 mothers and 367 Industrial School children — covering 17 institutions so far. More to come!

The plot is poorly kept, with the only two 'monuments', a broken plaque for Julia O'Donoghue in May 1984 & a metal cross with the wrong name inscribed: Doris Walsh instead of Ann Walsh in January 1985. Below are 13 women & 4 children from Bessborough that are buried in the plot.

In November of 1927, the Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary purchased three graves, combined into one plot in St. Joseph's Cemetery in Cork. This is what the grave looks like now. @timbre-breda.bsky.social & I finished looking at the cemetery registers for this plot. 17 people are buried here.

Had the legislation for this been better thought out & way more inclusive than it currently is, that number would be much higher. Not to mention, how many of the 796 missing children have family that know about them? #MotherAndBabyHomes www.irishtimes.com/ireland/soci...

I try to visualise the work that my volunteers & I do at @projectinfant.ie, but sometimes I need it in front of me. These are the 2,452 names [mothers & children] we've found, continuing to work to the total: 3,658. It really hammers it home seeing it all there in black & white.

It feels really surreal to see this recorded officially, but it happened. 🥲 It’s never too late to rectify something, but it shouldn’t have had to take so long to do it.

For 80 years from 1871 to 1951, St. Joseph's Industrial School in Artane, Dublin, had at least 222 deaths of boys aged 7-16 years. Those names have not been made public up to this point. That changes now. You can view the names that Project Infant found here: projectinfant.ie/the-homes/ar...

Found the name of another #Bessborough mother in the new Irish #Genealogy release today. On March 23rd, 1974 — Louise Bridget O’Leary died at the age of 81, spending time in Bessborough since 1923. 51 years of her life there. She was buried as Bridget O’Leary in late March. This is her grave. 😔

This has already gone to sh*t. (Using blunt terms here) The link style has changed meaning any link you have to an image is now BROKEN. Which has huge repercussions for the work me and my volunteers do at @projectinfant.ie — I’ll have to relink all 6,000+ records I have linked. 🫣 #Genealogy
