Hi everyone! This is what I did at Quais du Polar this year.

Quais du Polar 2026 : panels and books
This weekend was the twenty-second episode of the Quais du Polar crime fiction show. For newcomers to my blog, it’s a crime fiction festival set in Lyon, France. And it’s huge and spread through many venues in the city center: the Chamber of Commerce, the City Hall, the Comédie-Odéon theatre or the Chapelle de la Trinité. There are also events hosted at the Court House, the police academy, in several museums or in libraries.

New on the blog today, I've written about THE STEPDAUGHTER by Caroline Blackwood. A short, sharp shock of a novel where the reader bears witness to a stepmother’s unravelling and the impact of this nightmare on those who are under her care.

Hello Bluesky! I am looking for anyone who cares about/writes about/thinks about Rebecca West. I've been on a 10 year mission to get her a blue plaque in London and am finally allowed to re-apply after it was last turned down. I'd welcome help building a strong application. Thank you 💙🙏

New on the blog today, I've written about THE BARRACKS by John McGahern. A sad, quietly devastating novel that delves deep into character, raising the question of whether the protagonist - a housewife in her early forties - has lived a meaningful life. 💙📚
