#QueerPrompts Intro I'm JD (she/her) writer of bi-fi, usually with romance. My WIP for the month is a bisexual, polyam rockstar romance with an FFM trio. It's a sequel to my 2022 short novel Let's Bake a Deal. It has siblings of the MCs of the first book (and their 3rd, of course).

So I'm drafting my WIP, and these adult twins grew up near Lima, Ohio. I picked it because my parents used to live there. Today, I remembered that's where the show Glee was set. Oh, lord. I watched the show, but also couldn't reconcile the fantasy aspects with what rehearsing really is like.

Am rereading the 2nd draft of this one story that I'm about to start the 3rd draft on (maybe as early as tomorrow). Mostly, it shows me how glad I am that I'm "rebooting" this story. I have a few good lines, but I don't like what this draft was shaping up to be.

#QueerWritersChat A4 No... The thing is, most of the time I don't notice the prose. I notice if I'm enjoying the story and the ideas. Maybe I'll like a $20 word used well. If I like something, I go along for the ride. But I don't often think of the actual prose that was used to do it.

#QueerWritersChat A3 It's been close to purple before while I was learning how to write and finding my voice as a writer. Now that I know who I am, my prose is more utilitarian and beige. It serves the stories I want to tell, though from time to time I'll put in a few fancy verbal filigrees.

#QueerWritersChat A2 The only thing that comes to mind is that we should read our stories out loud. Use that to check with flow and to make sure there aren't verbal stumbling blocks. It helps with both the narrative passages and with dialogue.
