Okay. The first draft of my new short story collection is finished. Now to let it rest for a few days, then go back and fine-tune it. After that, it's time to send it to my editor and let my self-doubt and overthinking take over my existence.

I just got my first invitation to a conference in the UK. I'd be flattered except for a few details. First, they got my name wrong. Second, they mentioned a Facebook page of mine as the title of my book. Then they were convinced that the novel was relevant, even though it was written in 1870. 1/

Well, outside of a couple of short stories, it looks like I won't be publishing anything this year. But the silver lining is that I've been writing up a frenzy. Next year ought to be busy.

In tonight's episode of "Mental Contradictions Theater": I am surprisingly spontaneous in my writing and my real-life encounters with my readers. But I'll do ten drafts of the same email to them before I hit 'send' and then agonize over whether I could have done a better job.

This is all absolutely true.

Every year I grow more convinced that we should shave two weeks off January and give them to October. We need more time for Halloween.

Just about done with a small collection of short stories themed for the winter holidays. Looks like I won't make my deadline for this year. But I am way ahead of the curve for next year!

I don't know how brillig it was today, but the toves were damn slithy. And don't get me started on the borogoves.

Had a chance to move around and make some new connections today. Met some fantastic indie authors, and made plans for next year as well as the end of this year. Halfway through writing a short holiday-themed short story collection. If all goes well, it should be released own time for the holidays.

Had a fantastic day meeting creative people at an indoor Renaissance Fair (Yes, they exist and they are magnificent). I also got the chance to meet an aspiring fantasy author and look forward to giving any help I can. The more living, breathing, blood-in-the-veins creatives we have, the better.

Working on a short story in the, um, spirit of Halloween. Props to the people who get together every month to discuss writing at Blackbird Coffee and Comics (and Community). Creative sparks always fly. They led, in this case, to a tale of a quirky romance. Working title: "A Girl To Die For."

Every morning, I say to myself, "Tonight, I'm going to bed at a decent hour." Every night I realize that I'm a gullible person in the morning.

Does anyone have a quirk that seems to turn up in most of the characters they write? For example, most of my characters like coffee. #Writing #CharacterQuirks

One of my readers just tole me that my novel is the inspiration for their Halloween costume. And it gives me no end of pleasure to realize that this big, burly guy could have chosen his costume from any source: movies, TV shows, you name it. And he chose my book. WOW.
