This Fourth of July weekend promises more scorching heat during a time when many public cooling centers, such as libraries, will be closed. Roanoke has a few places that will be open during daytime hours to keep folks safe and cool and to offer free water.

His "yea" on the Big Ugly Bill was a "nay" for the people of the 6th District. Someday, though, in the not-too-distant future, we will restore the programs that give working folks a fair deal. And we will celebrate the anniversaries of the day when the Big Ugly Bill was no more.

When I am in Congress, I will vote to restore cuts to food and nutrition programs, healthcare, veterans services and all the other programs that helped so many Americans. The 6th District election is a competitive race this year because so much of what Cline supported is incredibly unpopular.
