The Mandalorian and Grogu is not a disaster of craft, it is a vapid, tiresome, languid work, that meanders aimlessly from scene to scene, in search of a reason to exist, hollow noise that fails to capture an inch of energy. It’s not unwatchable, just an astoundingly dull piece of programming.

lol, yeah, no, I ain’t finishing the Mando rewatch before tomorrow night. I’m in a bad place mentally, and cannot deal with watching that tonight.

Not a big fan of the dismissive “well it wasn’t made for you” when a movie doesn’t land. THE INCREDIBLES, for example, is explicitly made for kids, but also it’s made well. You can do both.

Will someone tell me why one of the best episodes of The Mandalorian is in Book of Boba Fett? Like, BDH captures the emotionality that the show is so desperately longing for, pairs it with kickass action and real craft, and some of the funniest stuff in the show… And it’s in another show entirely!

Watching S2 of the Mandalorian is like watching a show devolve into a well funded fan film. Which isn’t to diss fan films at all, but rather that maybe LFL shouldn’t be quite so low rent for their flagship streaming show…

I’m half way through my shift, the system is being slow, and I’m really trying not to fall asleep. This is why I have rest days!

Not to not make it about Obsession and how awesome it is, but… It’s almost like small to mid-budget studio films with good marketing and great word of mouth, which are often genre films and star driven programmers, are the backbone of the industry, and the pivot to tentpoles was always dumb.

Still out at the fundraiser, and I’m in so much danger

When seeing Obsession yesterday, a trailer started and i had no clue what it was from the cold open, I was trying to work out what it could be. Then I saw my sister’s old street and realised it was the new Insidious. Genuinely, that’s how i worked it out.

Credits roll on Saros, and man that rips. A astonishingly quick paced soulslike roguelite about the repeat chances one is given to understand the ways in which their complacency and expectation drives people away, wrapped up in an utterly wild sci-fi world. Kohli is incredible.

I just learnt that Curry Barker, who made Obsession, is a full year (and a few days) younger than me, and now I’m just depressed…

Obsession is a wicked, nastily funny and scathingly well observed, exploring a particular kind of subtle entitlement regarding unreciprocated feelings. Barker’s steady escalation is deeply unsettling, transforming a relatable story into an unhinged, hysterical nightmare. Navarrette is unreal.

Inde Navarrette breaking out with Obsession is making me remember how good she was on Superman & Lois in a genuinely difficult role to nail with keeping a sympathetic slant. Almost makes me want to rewatch S&L now.
