Man, I will never understand what changed for Anderson to completely upend his stylisations from a fuck tonne of slow mo to the sickening, aggressive editing that he started leaning into with RE: The Final Chapter.

The Anderson RE movies are so funny because their canon makes zero sense at any point, and that’s okay? Like, why is there this triumphant moment of Chris and Claire getting the final shot off on Wesker, when, for all we understand, they have zero relation to Wesker in this version of RE? Like, what

Fuck man, I forgot just how good RE4 remake feels as a rule, but also specifically with the Dualsense. It’s such a simple use of adaptive triggers, and hardly the first to do it, but god…it’s the best implementation of it.

The Wachowskis tap into a societal malaise, a questioning of reality under such mechanised control systems such as capitalism, and in the process, consciously or not, relates the trans experience as a universal concept. Oh, and it’s also just really fucking cool and gorgeously crafted.

I’ve not been buying DVDs, since the Japan trip is right around the corner, but they released one of my favourite films of all time in 4K steelbook, and I still only had it on a (very old) DVD. And by god, does this transfer look gorgeous.

The other thing is… It should not have taken 6 years, 3 seasons to get to the realisation that for any of these grander, emotional story beats to work… YOU NEED TO SEE MANDO’S FACE!

And now for something completely different

Utter perfection. A fucking triumph of a script by McQ, stunningly realised by Kosinski, a full hearted metatextual declaration of the need for the movie star and their tangibility in art, just as much as a truly perfect action flick. It rocks. It rocks so much.

There is not a single shot in cinema that has bothered me more this decade. A movie that is so immaculately shot and crafted, that is so keen and beautiful, and then boom, this monstrosity!

F1’s got me in the mood, or should I say it’s given me the need…the need for speed!

This movie is really missing the McQ factor to really make it soar anywhere close to Maverick, but it is still damn evocative. Even Kosinski on autopilot is more exciting than the majority of action filmmakers working in the studio system. It’s way too long, but it rips in the right ways.

Forgot that this movie was damn long, but the Lego is done and god it looks good (even with all that god damn advertising…)

Been meaning to rewatch, especially since the Oscar noms, so…time for a Lego build and rewatch

While I’m at it, just gonna give a shout out to this delightful book from the same author. Just utterly charming stuff here.

It’s finally here!

A grand, devastating, life affirming finale. We are fallible beings, hatred, war and violence may be part of humanity, but we must always hope, and strive to make a difference, because we deserve to exist and deserve to live. Out-fucking-standing.
