Is it me or is ageism getting way worse? The absolute vitriol painted on huge swaths of people simply because of when they were born by people who say they care about society is astounding. You can’t tell someone’s morals, character, or situation based on a birthdate. That’s nonsense.

Our eldest’s fiancé took today off, & began what should’ve been a leisurely 6hr travel day. It became a saga. His 10pm flight is now landing at 2am. My spouse is doing the 2hr round trip pick him up. All to join our eldest for a family memorial which was indefinitely delayed today due to flooding.

I felt ok earlier so I did a few things I’m not normally up for, like reading a few emails. I clearly got cocky ‘cause when the first other shoe dropped it nearly crushed me, then an other shoe deluge started & I metaphorically shoved my spouse in front of me & hid! Now I do not feel ok. #neisVoid

Whelp, the roads are too flooded to hold the memorials & ash scatterings tomorrow. Which does mean I get more rest before the movie adventurer on Wed. Then it’s back to figuring out how to move an antique grandfather clock while living in the sticks & not having $$$ throw at the problem.

I’d just like to point out that it’s deeply screwed up that my kid came to Central Texas from New England & they’re really enjoying having better air quality & cooler weather

Our adult kids just came tumbling through the front door the way they used to. They’re helping w/the move off of the family ranch & came in w/arms full of stuff they remember from when they were little, chattering excitedly, & headed straight to the kitchen. I’m a very happy parent!

Our eldest kid got here today, they live 1900 miles away & will be here for a month. It’s such a treat to have all of our kids here & not have holiday stuff to do. I love holidays, but just having it just be Tuesday is awesome. Their fiancé, who we love, is coming for a few days, too.

Every time my sons come home from work they bring more stuff. It’s a side effect of moving oof off land that’s been in my family since 1950. A recent thing is a leather bound tome which I just realized is a published book about my family’s early history in the US, a wild thing to discover exists.

One of my relatives keeps banging on about how climate change isn’t real. Yet they’re also amazed by how it’s ~20°F below normal here, & dangerously hot up North. They aren’t old or daft, they are indoctrinated & isolated (due to their own choices & behavior.) It’s not a circle I can square.

In a fit of pique I accepted an invitation to a movie next week w/my parents. My plan was to send a kid in my place if I wasn’t well enough, but my mom surprised us by buying tickets for everyone. Then she went & made sure the seats are accessible. I feel very loved & cornered. #neisVoid 1/2

I realize this isn’t news to anyone, but some family members are making me want to scream publicly & this is the closest thing I’ve got: “Conservatives” are selfish, rude, destructive, bigoted assholes who are utterly & completely out of touch with anything resembling reality!

It’s 11am, so far today the #neisVoid is strong: Was jolted out of sleep by my son setting off the house alarm at 8am (I usually sleep until 11.) Got a call from the orthopedist’s office assuming changing my apt time by hrs was fine (it’s not.) My eldest’s very old cat passed away. How are y’all?

Message exchange w/my PCP today: Me: Is it possible to add hEDS to my chart before I see the orthopedist? Dr: Absolutely, I’ll add it as a working diagnosis so if you get insurance that will cover the testing in the future it won’t be an impediment. Good drs do exist, they’re just woefully rare!

There’s something rather wonderful about the sound of my family laughing drifting into my room. It can pull me out of melancholy thoughts & ground me. It’s a reminder that my illness doesn’t weigh on them as badly as I fear. It’s a weight lifted, & a moment of joy I quietly get to share with them.

I’m supposed to go to an orthopedist this week. I don’t wanna. I’m tired. It’s a long drive (ride, really, I can’t drive anymore) & requires pants. I don’t want to deal w/yet another new dr who I haven’t vetted for knowledge of ME/cfs, long Covid, or hEDS. hmpf

Eldest kid & fiancé are back at the emergency vet w/their 23yr old kitty. We’ve had a lot of loss as a family, including other beloved pets - each one left a uniquely shaped hole in our lives. But, this is different, there’s always been a generational buffer & being the decision maker is so hard.

I slept lase night, solid 6hrs & 1.5hrs with only light disturbances. 😲 I’ve had this happen a few times before, & sometimes it’s like winning the ME/cfs lottery for a day, other times I’m completely flat again within 3hrs of waking up. 🤞🤞🤞

These all sound like excellent ideas.

Our eldest kid was given a fully grown ranch cat by my grandfather when they were in middle school. That kid is 30yrs old, lives 1900 miles away, & that cat has been their constant companion. Last night the cat’s health took a turn. I’m heartbroken for our kid.

I’m increasingly worried my incredibly loving, intelligent, & patient stepdad might have Long Covid. I can’t get anyone to listen to me about the obvious timeline. They brush off his brainfog & health changes as age or they think I’m projecting bc I have debilitating LC. It’s so frustrating!

Not being able to walk or stand means everything takes twice as long. I assume some of this is because my life is only partially set up for not using my legs. Also, my arms hurt from being impatient & wheeling myself - carpet is especially difficult! #neisVoid

It’s nearly 1am here in the Texas Hill County. It’s also 82°F with a “feels like” temp of 90° (32° C). This is an increasingly normal temp at night. We’re usually ~10°F cooler than the nearest cities. Heat has cumulative effects on health. Our summers traditionally end around Halloween.
