Last week, I encountered THE biggest wild native Irish tree of my life: the Brian Boru Oak, once part of Galway and Clare's mighty Slieve Aughty rainforest. (Zoom in to see Sonia of the Woodland League for scale.) Can you even imagine when this sort of magnificence was nothing special?

#FolkloreThursday In most parts of what is now the Czech Republic there was a custom of "tree shouting". The ritual happened before dawn and people were striking trees with a stick or wooden spoon while loudly shouting. This was to awake the trees at the end of winter and ensure a good harvest.

Spring is here, but it seems that my soul is caught in a perpetual autumn. 🌿🍂 Quinacridone Gold and Olive Green by Sennelier and Rich Green Gold by Daniel Smith have been my favourites lately. :)

A log covered with Ishnoderma resinosum - late fall polypore. If you catch them young the white outer edges are soft and edible. The browner parts are conk-like and very firm. This mushroom lacks gills. Instead, it has a pore surface on the underside of the cap. Common to find. #mushroommonday
