It’s a beautiful day for a “fall cleanup” I don’t remove a single leaf from the property. All get distributed in the beds, used as insulation in my nursery, and remnant scraps are mulched into the remaining lawn, a last resort, as I try to keep the leaves whole for overwintering insects.

Imagine being so car brained, you expect the driver of a vehicle and a young child crossing the street to share the same responsibilities If that were the case, we wouldn’t have multiple kids dying on our streets, every day.

Hate to break it to you, but kids ARE forced into the streets. If that front lawn had a retaining wall, no stroller will fit through there.

It's Halloween, kids get to be priority street users for ONE day. Drivers have priority every single day. DRIVERS should be getting the safety lecture about using their multi-ton machines around little kids. And it's not just MA, this backwards messaging is everywhere in the US.

Like I said, link to where they are also reminding drivers to be more careful. Quite literally NOBODY said anything about "either-or." Nobody is saying that the reminder is bad. What's bad is that they are not even trying to make the same effort toward drivers.

Idk what state you live in, but MA law says vehicles MUST yield to pedestrians in the street, even if there is no marked crosswalk. Drivers can slow the fuck down. If a pedestrian gets hit at 20mph they have a 90% chance of survival That drops to 20% at 40mph. Safety is a shared responsibility.

Drivers kill over 20 pedestrians a day in the US. But sure, call it "complaining".

You both need help if you think 20+ people dying every day is acceptable because they weren’t walking properly or wearing the right clothes Drivers operating 4,000 lb climate controlled boxes can follow laws, too

So if there’s no sidewalk, or no crosswalk unless I walk 1/4 mile up the road, I guess I’ll just get in my car and drive there! If you can’t see past the car brained mentality of asking pedestrians to walk safely, but no mention of drivers being safe, then I can’t help you.

Sometimes I think about how harmful it is that we drill into kids at a young age that it's a car world and they're just living in it.

Ugh and it gets even better. This city sucks on so many levels. Honestly, it’s the main reason I am inactive on Facebook. Sure, every town has people like this, but Waltham breeds them, from our outdated government to poor street design

Waltham resident for 24 years here and nothing has changed. No bike lanes, wide, fast streets, ribbon cutting for a new parking lot, and I forgot to mention, she’s on term 6! Young voters need to get out and vote (council elections next week, mayoral in two years, need to keep the momentum going)
