Autistic and ADHD writers, how do you handle rejection? Especially if you have some form of rejection sensitivity? I can mostly deal with rejections that have a reason, but the featureless, impersonable wall of a firm rejection sends me spinning. #booksky #writesky

Form rejections are callous and the entire query/submission/rejection process is dehumanizing.

I know I've been gone. Warden's Curse flopped and depression has been dragging me down (mostly unrelated). I'll be back if/when I start feeling better.

The Librarians wear robes and belts. The color of their robes signifies their rank. The color of their belts signifies the wing of the Library they work for. Royse went right from the orphanage into the Library, so she's always been used to clothes being practical rather than fashionable.

#Septipolis 10 All of the Librarians were once orphans. The Library runs orphanages in large part for recruitment purposes, so any orphans who show promise get taught at the Library. Gender is pretty even, orientations are varied, and everyone is human cuz there aren't other sapient species.

There's no better time to start reading! Part 10 just came out, which sets up basically the entire series. If the story so far doesn't grab you, it likely never will. If it does, you can expect more of the same, all free on Royal Road.

If I knew how to code, I'd make a Silksong mod where whenever Hornet sat on a bench, it would play the sound of Zoey and Mira from KPDH going "Couch! Couch! Couch!"

#Septopolis 9 It's straightforwardly named the Library of Magic. It isn't tied to any place, and it was founded by several people, so they named it after its purpose.

#Septopolis 8 The Library's eight founders (part of why its symbol is an eight pointed star) were powerful mages who saw the destruction around them and decided there needed to be a better way to learn and teach magic. They knew secrets of magic even the most educated modern mages don't.

It’s funny because promoting and marketing a book in any way, shape, or form is actually NOT the author’s job. At all. It is unpaid labor we’ve been forced to do for so long the expectation has mutated like a virus into “okay now you also have to be a TikTok sensation to do this as a job.”

Royse works for one authority, the Library, and as such is appreciated, mistrusted, or outright disliked by the others. This tension between the Library and other govts/groups is part of her backstory in book one and will be explored more in book two, which I'm drafting now :)

#Septopolis 7 Before the Library, magical cataclysms were common. Mages would FAFO regularly. There was also a growing wave of religious zealotry against magic. The Library was founded to create a structured, related approach to magic and protect its legacy.

Royse throws herself into studying and training. Sometimes getting stronger solves the stressful thing. Sometimes it distracts her until the stressful thing goes away. It isn't healthy, per se, but given the situation she's in after act 1, it's an understandable response to unique circumstances.

#Septopolis 6 There aren't natural wonders near the Library because the Library isn't near anywhere, but the rest of the world has them. There's a giant swamp between Hennerin and Surlinia where giant, raptor-like lizards live that's quite beautiful. If you don't run into any of the lizards.

Two depressive episodes in one week sorta killed my momentum. Also the thing I published isn't getting anywhere close to the views I was hoping even tho it's free. I still did what writing and editing I could, and I have a backup project in mind, but the week was a lot. #QueerWriters

Spoiler-free Silksong thoughts so far: Everything is super pretty and the soundtrack is amazing I like that we get dialogue lines and a real character from our character I beat the first real boss after the tutorial and all I have to say about that is PUPPY

#Septopolis 4! The Library is in its own pocket dimension. That lets it expand however it needs to (which is useful for space, but leads to some complicated architecture and organizational issues). It can also create portals to practically anywhere, letting it import food/resources at no cost.

I feel like once you get to a certain baseline amount of skill, being an author is more about marketing well than writing well. I didn't sign up to be a marketer!

#Septopolis 3 The Library is somewhat inspired by the library in The Magicians, as well as large libraries I've known such as the University of Arizona library. A lot of its haphazardness gives the vibes of the Stacks in Kingkiller, with many titles needing divination to find.
