An almost cloud-free Britain and Ireland on Saturday 12 July 2025, with only eastern coastal regions shaded by marine stratocumulus/haar. Vegetation across southern and eastern England noticeably browner than normal thanks to continued below-normal rainfall and anomalously high temperatures.

Talk and Discussion tonight 24 April at Craven Conservation Group on Ghost and Shadow Woodlands of North Craven (i.e. round Settle, N Yorks ). I think it is more on historical and woodland management ideas (rather than ancient woodlands or lichens) but should still be good.

Three reddish/ orange lichens on acid rocks from mid-Wales - Tremolecia atrata, Porpidia melinodes and Rhizocarpon oederi.

Today’s lichen - Cladonia subcervicornis, a blue grey Cladonia of acid rocks. 🤩

Heritage delivers so much for nature, as havens and homes. Sitting in the church yard, just four minutes and so many birds shared their song. I walked by the pond to get here and saw a kingfisher and a heron. Heritage preserves more than earthworks and mortar.
