The bill that seeks to ban gun violence research and cut its funding is moving forward in Congress. Gun violence prevention champions tried to remove the ban and restore $60M to study gun violence, but gun lobby loyalists blocked their effort—proof they don't care about prioritizing public safety.

Today marks the start of Suicide Prevention Month—a reminder that suicide is a public health crisis touching every community. In the U.S., it’s a leading cause of death for youth and adults, especially military personnel and veterans. Awareness is the first step toward prevention.

Firearm suicide is a leading cause of death among U.S. military members, yet many service members underestimate the risks of having guns at home. Healthcare providers can play a key role in promoting secure storage, reducing suicide, unintentional shootings, and interpersonal violence.

Neurosurgeons are seeing an increasing number of gunshot wounds to the brain. These injuries were formerly mostly seen and treated in military settings and are the deadliest firearm injuries. The best treatment? Prevention. Every specialty plays a role in stopping firearm injuries and death.

One thing that can prevent school shootings? Locking up your guns. A shocking 76% of school shooters get their gun from the home. Across America, 4.6 million children live in homes with access to unsecured firearms. If you own guns, lock them up. If you don't, ask others to do so. #EndFamilyFire
