I think the most horrifying thing about the US Civil War was that the leadership was either Napoleon Nerds (Lee, McClellan, Sherman, Jackson, and Halleck) or philosophy nerds (Grant and Scott). The first of them read Hegel and decided to become the Weltgeist.
