Science has lost a GIANT and the world has lost one of the kindest most inspiring people I had the pleasure of knowing. Just an extraordinary man whose curiosity was infectious and whose dry wit will always be memorable- RIP John

Why can a human tolerate a drug that globally inhibits transcription? Why do transcription inhibitors not cure cancer? Our first paper of 2025 may help explain (some) of this! So incredibly proud of
@tobiaswilliams.bsky.social
& Ewa Michalak who led the work!

mRNA export factors store nascent transcripts within nuclear speckles as an adaptive response to transient global inhibition of transcription
Transcription inhibitors also disrupt nuclear export. Here, Williams etĀ al. reveal that mRNA export factors sense transcription inhibition and adapt by storing mature export-competent mRNA in nuclear speckles. This enables rapid release when transcription resumes and ensures retention of cellular identity and viability during a transient global transcription insult.

Age-related clonal hematopoiesis and HIV infection are associated with geriatric outcomes: The ARCHIVE study
Han etĀ al. examine the relationship between clonal hematopoiesis (CH), HIV, and geriatric syndromes in the ARCHIVE study, including adults with and without HIV. Findings suggest that HIV is associated with increased biological age, while CH may independently predict adverse geriatric outcomes, such as frailty and reduced quality of life.
